    Hi guys!

We are really excited to return to TTR in June!
While we are there I would like to explore the area a little more without paying crazy $$. (We have done Chichen Itza, Jungle Tour, underwater museum, coco bongo, the city, mandala, sweet etc - I am not looking for anything like that).

What are some places we can explore during the day without spending a ton on $$? Any ruins, cenotes, beaches etc?
I do want to go to Isla Mujeres on our own to explore since during the Boobs Cruise you do not have much time.

ex: We took the bus to Playa Delfines (largest public beach in Cancun)

*Language is not a barrier for us

    Thanks!

Have you been to the Quiet Pool before? I hear it's quite nice.

If you've already done all the bigger trips that you've mentioned I think you'll really enjoy the laid back feeling of Isla Majures on your own. Rent a golf cart and just go. Stop off everywhere you see you likeand just explore and check out the scenery. It will be one of you greatest days ever. The only other thing that I would suggest is checking out the downtown local area. It can be quite interesting and definitely a change from the hotel zone.

My recommendation for a self guided day trip would be to rent a car for the day.

First in the morning do the nearest cenote which is the Kin Ha cenote near Puerto Morelos(20 min south of the airport) here is a video of one couples trip
[ame=""]Cenote Kin Ha Puerto Morelos Mexico - YouTube

Next go back to the main highway(307) and drive further south to Playa del Carmen for lunch(great restaurants there) and a walk around 5th avenue shopping and around the beach.

Finally drive back north on highway 307 and if you still have some energy turn right into the town of Puerto Morelos and then go out on one of the snorkeling boats(about $25 us pp) that will take you to snorkel on the big reef that stretches from just south of the hotel zone all the way to Cozumel - btw - that reef is one of the largest in the world.

You can pick and choose from any/all of the above suggestions and won't have to spend a lot of money but you will have a full and fun day :icon_wink:

Doing Isla Mujeres is a great day out. Ferries go from Puerto Juarez for next to nothing, and bus goes right to the port. Never made it out on our own last trip, but regretting it now! There's some really nice bars on Isla, and the beach Playa Norte is like a five min walk from the main road. It's breathtakingly beautiful! On the other side of the island is Garrafon reef park - but that's expensive $80+ each!! I've heard that there's a beach bar right next door called Garrafon de Castilla, which is only $5. It shares the same beach as the expensive reef park next door (same fish etc) so no different. You can hire scuba stuff to swim in the shallows.

El Rey ruins are right in the hotel zone - near Playa Delfines. Again, not expensive to get in. Apparently there's tons of iguanas, if you like that sort of thing.

I'd also suggest a day visiting the public beach near Hard Rock Cafe, Carlos n Charlies and all that. Means you can visit beach, then have a meal that's a bit of a breather from the food served at TTR.

If you like seafood go to the Crab House. I really like the stone crab claws.

The only thing about renting a car and going on your own is DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. Remember you are in a different country and although you probably won't get arrested for a dui, you will come away with alot less than you started with.
