I went to my bank today and they said for $400USD, I would receive $4,690MXN. Do you think this is on par/better/worse than what I would get at the ATM's in Mexico? I confused as hell about how I should go about getting pesos...

Discussion time, everybody chime in!! :daveandmo:

We were there in April, and went with just American and were fine...they give you pesos for change if you pay with American so you will end up with a blend of the two. The best bit of advice we can give with regards to money is to bring ALOT of American $1.00 bills...we are going to try to have about 100 or so when we go. Can't tell you how many times we had to ask for change at the front desk cause you have to tip often there and we overtipped alot because of our lack of ones.

11.73 peso's to the dollars not bad. When we were in Cancun in Feb it was about 12.85 to one USD. And my self I do exchange at the cambios and only use pesos.

You can get taken on your change if you arent thinking straight.:partytime:

Today we went and picked up cash for the trip. Suprisingly, our bank had plenty of 2 dollar bills, so you might want to look into that if you dont want to carry as many ones (someone had posted that they love 2 dollar bills). We're not planning on trying to get pesos ahead of time either, seems like US works fine.

We only brought a hundred in crisp $1's a couple weeks ago and we ran out of those real quick and started tipping in $5's, so I will bring at least two hundred in crisp $1's next time we go(they don't like the flimsy bills so much from what I hear). If you do have to do an exchange do it at the front desk and and try to get a lot of the $20 peso's bills they equal like $1.70+/- U.S. those are good in the pool because they're made out of a wax paper-like material, so they'll stay dry in the pool because the water never penetrates them. I used $5's & $10's in the restraunts. ;)
