I'm an ex Professional golfer with over 30 years experience, now living in Cancun. Working in the golf industry, I have been a golf manager at both private and public golf complexes in the South of England and was Vivien Saunders golf manager at here complex in cambridgeshire.
I have been a golf coach to all ages and standards, including fellow professionals. I have outstanding retail experience,... selling the full range of golf equipment, tuition and club memberships. I also have a high understanding of golf psychology.
I'm looking for a position within golf either sales or coaching or organising events as I have a yearning to return to the golfing world to share my knowledge and experience with others.

I reckon you should start at Mayakoba and just go in and sell yourself. I reckon most clubs should have a professional but one thing Cancun needs is definitely more golf equipment for sale, i've seen a bag in Marti, about 3 clubs and a bag for sale in Liverpool and now there's a shop opened up in Malecon in Las Americas that has about 10 sets in total, mostly second hand. I reckon there's room for massive expansion in golf in this area, especially with locals who probably just view it as a rich tourist mans sport and it shouldn't be, should be accessible to everyone like it is in England and other parts of the world.

A good idea for a business here would be a crazy golf place, could fill it with locals and tourists.

Do you do private lessons? How much do you charge?

    Hi there Sam,

Thanks for your views / ideas.

I've tried sending emails with a CV / resume attached, but to get the right email address for the golf club is far from easy. I'll see if anything comes of the ones I have sent to, then if needs be visit them and drop off CV etc.

I do do private lessons, but have no base / venue to work from. I have tought all ages and standards including fellow professionals. I also use golf psychology to improve players thinking while playing and practising.

    Thanks again, Steve.

Just out of curiosity how much does an 18 hole round typically cost in Cancun?

    Dear Dos Equis fan,

It depends on which course and time of play, you can do a twilight green fee at most of the courses after 1pm. Cost is around $75 - $95 USD.

    Regards, Steve.

It costs and arm and a leg!

I played the par 3 at the Melia last week for a local rate of 250 pesos, the usual rate is something like 50 bucks! The course is very samey and average.

In the UK I play a par 3 for 6.50 GBP for the day!

The 18 hole course is less than 20 quid a round for non members for a well nice course, whereas here I think the cheapest is about 70 bucks.

    Golf here is well expensive!

Mat's right, you won't find much here as a tourist for anything less than $75 and that's a twilight round. Some morning fees i've seen start at $150 and up to $275 (Playa mujeres) and god only knows how much Mayakoba is (if they let you on it, probably think they're Augusta over there!)..

Steveshire, i would definetely recommend you just go and visit the courses, your CV could be in their spam folder for all your know.

Thanks guys, I wasn't really thinking too seriously about it. I assumed it was high. Knowing I can do a round in Calgary in the middle of summer for much less reassures me that I need to make a lot more $ before testing the links in Cancun!

Which is too bad, I assume the courses there are amazing!

Dos-x's I also would have loved to golf down there but saw the fees and fell on the floor! With clubs, caddie and cart its closer to 160.00+ USD and that isnt including the tips for caddy etc... unless the prices have come down, it was about 30 less for twilight.

    Here are Pok Ta Pok:
    Regular$175.00 USD
    Twilight $145.00 USD
Club Rentals $45.00 USD $45.00 USD
Shoe Rentals $15.00 USD $15.00 USD
