I was wondering if there is a duty free shop at the airport in Cancun that you can buy stuff from before going through customs. Thanks for the help

Yes that's right, I thought that's what they meant. We felt out of Winnipeg and there was a duty free shop open there. We grabbed a couple bottles of wine ;)

yes you can. If you want booze buy it at walmart (cheaper) but you have to pack it in a checked bag.if you fly in from the us they have a duty free on the way in as well.

Can't remember how the duty free works in Terminal 3 in Cancun (where most American airlines go into). But most airports typically only let you do duty free on leaving not on arriving.

If that's the case and you have a private transfer and ask them to stop at a nearby gas station. Smokes there tend to be pretty cheap. Can't remember but I think you can get cartons at walmart as well if you take that route.

Unlike the US and Canada that have repressive "sin" taxes on booze, beer and tobacco - Mexico does not.

So in general, buying any of these locally(not at the resort !!) you will pay pretty much the same as purchasing at the airport duty free and also have a wider variety to choose from than what the duty free shops offer...

We got our smokes at the duty free at the airport , saved us a stop on our way to resort. It's the way we will do it from now on. Worked great
