Roots has live jazz, located near Parque las Palapas. Los 4 Elementos at the Xbalanque Hotel downtown often has live music, I've seen great "trova" (kind of folky) there. The bars on Yaxchilan have rock, Los Arcos and others. Live salsa at Sabor Latino.

Los Arcos is usually good for live rock music as CC mentioned (after midnight) although I havent been there for a long time myself, so not sure which band currently plays

Also live Salsa at Mambo Cafe, again midnight is the time it kicks off.

Dont go down at 8pm looking for live music you probably wont find any.

Where is Mambo Cafe nowadays? I was disappointed to discover they closed their Hotel Zone location.

If you don't want to travel to Centro (Downtown), Mojito Latin Grill & Bistro is a wonderful place to catch live Salsa music in the Hotel Zone at Kilometer 9.

Thanks Steve, I walked by this past June but didn't see any signs for the place, nor did I hear any music. Maybe it was the wrong hour like you've suggested before, 8 pm is just too early for some nightlife.

    Cheers,

Is Mambo Cafe in the upstairs part of Plaza Las Avenidas?

How about Sabor Latino? Are they still upstairs from the 2nd level at Plaza Hong Kong?

When you get the answers, can you put a,,, "on what street" and between what streets,.on it!

Say Like, "Roots" is on Tulipanes, Between Av Tulum and the park.......Land marks are useless,, because one can not find them on a map!......

    Thankx again!,

To be honest everyone uses landmarks here. There are often several streets with the same name in different parts of town and they are usually poorly signposted. I have no idea of most street names except the ones close to the house.

Whenever someone tells me something is on a certain street I usually have to say "is that near such and such?"

I dont know the name of the Plaza, but it's not upstairs it's the other side of the Pemex from Burger King in a building on it's own. I think it used to be called "Rodeo".

Not sure on that one, I've never been to Sabor Latino.
