It's been a long time since we've gone anywhere we had to worry about the water and without going into much detail, I have a fairly sensitive digestive system. I know not to drink the tap water, but is it safe enough for brushing your teeth with? Is the ice in the drinks there safe? Strangely enough I didn't have any problems last time I went to Mexico and it doesn't take much for me!
I've been to Mexico 7 times and have never had a problem with the tap water for brushing teeth or ice cubes in the drinks. I mainly stuck to bottled water or coffee for the nonalcoholic drinks I had, but I would drink the glasses of water served to me in the restaurants, and I never had an issue there either. The resort has its own water filtration system but I dont take the risk we always use the bottle water to drink, make coffee in room and brush our teeth but then again I (Will) also have a very sensitive stomach and dont want to risk the chance of messing up all the fun to be had at TTR
It actually states on a sign in the bathroom that the water IS drinkable, not that I've ever done that when there's bottled water in the fridge. But there's no problem with brushing your teeth or ice. Let's face it (got my scientist hat on now), we're all likely to get a dose of the "squits" at some point. Heat, jetlag, dehydration, rich food, alcohol, new "local bacteria" your guts have never met before..... but people always blame "that burger/ prawn/ whatever, I had last night"!! :daisy:
Hotel water is perfectly fine. Two trips in and no problems whatsoever drinking or brushing teeth with the tap water. If you have sensitive digestive system may be a precautionary measure to not drink it, but brushing teeth you'll be fine. Best thing you can do is make sure you don't accidentally swallow any pool water, I'm certain that's a bigger danger to bad guts than the tap water!
FYI as soon as you get a drink at the bar, if it has fountain soda/coke/orange soda or what ever be it ,, your drinking the water. Something about ice cubes,, if they have a hole in the middle their good to go . All you salads, fruits... are washed with tap water. A good regiment of Pro biotic before you go won't hurt,, and bring your over counter meds.
All the water used at TTR for anything is filtered water, so from that stance it's OK. Lots of travellers blame the water for upset tummies not caused by water, but by the food, and not because the food is "bad" or spoiled or whatever, just because it's not the same type of food they are usued to eating at home, so their stomach revolts. Not saying that all the water in Mexico is filtered, or even in Cancun, but at TTR it is, according to management. I've never had a stomach problem once there.
Amen to that! We've only been to TTR in the heat of the summer and the sexy pool is a hot mess by the end of the day! The water is also super hot, it actually feels hot to get in it in the afternoon and evening- hence why we rarely get out!
Completely agree. I had a bad stomach after eating the raw salmon appetiser at the Italian on my 1st trip. I didn't think it would be an issue because I eat stuff like this at home, but my stomach didn't agree. Nothing wrong with the food, just me!
I can't say where I picked up my bug last time we were down there (dr suspects it was ecoli), but I was 'off' while there and super sick when I got home (at least it waited). Since I'm not sure how I got it (also, super sensitive guts), I'll be being extra careful this year (only 14 days away!)....lots of hand sanitizer and no tap water if I can help it.
