Does anyone know if you can find doggy doors in Cancun: the kind you install in a wall, door, or sliding glass door?

Usually, they're available at pet stores and home improvement stores.

I'm hoping I won't have to buy one here and bring it with me. My car is getting full; there may not be any room for me! LOL!

    Thanks!

Christina - They are super expensive here with few choices (I've seen only one for sale here). My hubby did a brilliant job reconstructing our sliding screen door with a doogie flap in it, it even keeps out the mosquitoes. But it took him two days of work to do it.

I think it would be easier to have one made than to buy one here....but maybe you should just bring one...

    Doggy Doors

    Thanks RiverGirl.

What I've discovered here is the doggy doors for slidiing doors are long and tall, so I won't be able to bring that with me in my little Ford, Freestyle.

I may have to have one made too. I'll get in touch with my landlord.

    Thanks a bunch!

Home Depot sells baby gates, the kind you use to keep crawlers out of the kitchen or at the top of steps. In the far right corner from the front doors. I use one to keep my dog off the rooftop patio.

Not to be a party-pooper or a buttinsky ( at least not too much of one) but just a thought: Make sure you don't think that everything here is going to be like everything there and that this move is like moving from one city or state to another or you will be setting yourself up for disappointment. In the beginning, everything will not be as expected. Try to get rid of as many expectations as possible before leaving home. It makes new experiences easier.

    Some great reading: http://www.mexconnect.com/en/articles/3144-living-working-retiring-in-mexico-index-page

    All of it is good.

I also always specially recommend this article by a friend, Jennifer Rose, who also has a dog: http://www.mexconnect.com/en/articles/1883-mexico-s-a-breeze

Haha! More like make sure that you expect every single thing to be different. Even the same brand of candy bars taste different here to me. The only thing that's the same to me is that I still breath air here, the rest is out the window it's so different.

& if you do get a "doggy door" make sure that it would not allow someone to reach an arm in and open the door.... I cant think of ever seeing one here, and its probably because they are seen as a security risk.... unless you have a really small dog, the opening might lead to problems.

I agree that you don't want to put a doggie door in a door that can be seen from the street. Ours is in the back and not even our neighbors can see it unless they get on top of their roof.

And our doggie door is in the screen door, we can still close the sliding door and lock it. But the doggie door allows our 10 pets to come and go into the back yard while we are home, without letting in mosquitoes and without us having to deal with anything.

I appreciate your honesty guys. Believe me, if I wanted it to be like the US, I wouldn't be moving to Mexico. I'm sure it'll be an adjustment, though, but that's not necessarily a bad thing -- just different.
