Does anyone know if the resort will make change in American for tipping? For example, provide $20 American in $1 bills for a $20 American bill.
I guess I'm a little worried that it's one of those situations where they know you are stuck and they say that they only exchange into pesos or something crazy like that. I totally agree with you that money is money and it "shouldn't" be a problem. You'll have to pardon my lack of faith in humanity, lol
. In our experience, what will happen is, you go into the little store (or the jewelry store, whatever) and you use your $USD to buy something, and they give you back change in pesos, which you then use to tip.... Or, on your way there, you break a $20-spot or aC-note if you Be A Playa! Then, you got all the tip cash you need in order to get them to allow you to put your wife or new BFF's chick on the bar for a naked bodyshot.
Yes they do. It is sometimes a better exchange rate than the banks...... They are always short on small peso notes (ie. $20's) I suggest bringing them with you or you are always going back to the desk....
Go to one of the bartenders. The front desk is worthless. That said, like many people, I bring all my tipping money in low denom bills with me....getting change in Mexico...even peso bills suitable for tipping can be troublesome, even at a bank. Why waste vaca time looking to break a $20...just bring a wad of 1's and 5's with you is what I do.
Using the bartenders is a good idea. I went to the bank today to get small bills and they barely had any so we have a bunch of 10s and 20s
Bring a lot of small bills from home. The front desk will only exchange for pesos. I usually bring three or four hundred in small bills 1s 2s and 5s. I almost always bring money home.
I go to my bank and get a book of 100- dollar bills its only about 3/8" thick perfect for tip money and easy to carry around
