We were thinking about flying in without checking our bags, carry-on only...with all the restrictions does anyone know if we can purchase necessities at the resort? (like toothpaste, hair products ect)

Thanks! (4 more days! Yay!!) :)

    Walmart

The gift shop has some things but you would be better off taking the bus to walmart.

    Re: Walmart

Or if you have a private transfer like USA Transfer, they will stop @ Walmart on the way to TTR. There might be an additional charge depened on how long you take

We never check luggage when we go, carry-ons only. Like others said, Walmart is a short bus trip if you need it.

We found pretty much everything we needed in the convenience store that's basically in the parking lot of TTR last time. We're planning on trying to do the carry-on thing this time as well. Good luck!

Wife and I went to Cancun last winter and only took a back pack for each of us, we were able to get all toiletries before we left from convenience stores in the states. Toothpaste, shampoo, the whole works, and all small enough to meet the rules. Once you travel with a carry on only, you will never go back, saved us several hours at the airport both in and out. Huge time saver and a lot lighter load, remember, Cancun cloths don't take much space! :D

    Ditto,
Went for 4 days, only two carry on bags (airline wanted $20 per bag to check them!!!) Was able to get all of our cosmetics and and toilets stuff into two zip lock bags. Soap and shampoo in the room so you don't need that.
Only challenge was sun screen. I bought four 3 ounce tubes at target for .99 each.

Carry-on the only way to go.

    P.S. Customs SUCKS!!!!

There's now a new OXXO store (basically a 7/11) just across the road and to your left. Much larger range of stock than the convenience store by the parking lot.

Still inflated prices though, a one off trip to Walmart may well be worth it.

Booking a private transfer with USA Transfers they will stop for an hour at Walmart for $30 per hour or part thereof. If it saves you checking in bags at say $20 per bag, a lot of heavy lifting and inflated HZ prices at nearby shops then it's a good deal in my book.
