Ok, so there was an earlier thread talking about the tap water at the resort. This is our 5th time here last week and the first time there has been a sign on the mirror saying "drinkable water, agua potable" so after seeing that and I had been told on the previous thread that they had recently installed a state of the art purification system??? I thought AWESOME! I didn't drink the water in the room but we did brush our teeth and rinse our mouths and toothbrushes with it. Spoke to a member about it and he said what? are you crazy? the pipes are still the same! Next day we both got sick! UUgggh. Not hangover sick either and not dehydarated. We drank alot of bottled water throughout the day and stayed in the shade. Next morning after showering my husband fills the sink to shave and the water is YELLOW and was several times for the rest of our stay. That is why WE say.........DO NOT DRINK OR BRUSH YOUR TEETH WITH THE WATER FROM THE TAP!!!:flagcanada::wuerg011:
We have been about 16 or 17 times and only gotten sick twice, the first year was from something we drank away from the resort, and last May my husband got sick from something that was going around the resort, he got sick again last Oct when we went, not sure why, but I never got sick, and we brushed our teeth with the same water. I have had some problems with the mold in the air ducts and have learned to take lysol with us to spray in the ducts, it helps.
We got sick the first time we went but that is all. I too believe it was just a bug going around. Several people got sick during that time. We don't drink the tap water but we do use it just enough to brush our teeth. Good idea about the lysol.
The resort has, and has always had (at least for the last 15 years), a water purfication system that covers the whole hotel. If you got sick, it was not from the tap water. If you get sick from water born parisites you are sick for weeks, not hours. Water taste like shit to some but is safe to drink, brush your teeth, etc. That being said... every water distribution system has problems from time to time. Not a water system in the US that hasn't pumped brown water at one time or another. So if you fill your sink and the water is yellow, yeah, don't drink it and let the front desk know. Jamie
We always brush our teeth with Vodka to avoid any such problems, has worked so far without any problems. :aktion052:
We don't drink the tapwater, but do brush the teeth in that. Also, drink mixed drinks made with ice presumably from the resort's water, but doesn't everyone? It seems odd to me that people will be very afraid of the tap water to drink, but will drink a frozen drink made with the very same tapwater, and likewise, mixed drinks like a screwdriver when the ice is that same tapwater too. Makes me scratch my head.
We all brush our teeth with regular water from the tap and have for almost 8 years. Everyone here local or expat alike does - and that's downtown water that is definitely not purified. Never had any problems we could attribute to teeth brushing with the water, same goes for our kids too.
Most of the major clubs use filtered water and almost all bars use filtered water ice (ice with a hole in it). I say almost because even if I think all someone will have that one out of the way bar they know that doesn't. But even if you don't have ice in your drink, like getting a beer in a bottle, be sure to wipe the top before drinking to remove any excess water from the bottle. They may have chilled the bottle in a bucket of ice water using tap water. Jamie
The water from the sinks are perfectly fine...been to TTR twice and other resorts 7 times, always used the sink water for brushing my teeth, etc and never came close to being sick...stop being paranoid
Alot of the sickness blamed on water is actually contributed from other sources. Things like trying different new foods, more alcohol intake then usual(a big one for many), eating more food then normal, different sleep patterns, catching a bug on the flight in, and in many cases a combination of these. I would say the most common being drinking more then usual which throws your stomach out of whack and then adding new foods......just not a good combination for most.
