not the DJ's fault, this contest is an OLD contest that thousands of radio stations do yearly!!! She excepted the risk, and the other members of the game and audience are just as much to blame as the DJ's in my opinion! She didnt get ill until she got home, then everything happend. Sad it happend, but come on........................
I heard the audio clips from the broadcast of that contest this morning on a NYC radio station.... They kept joking around that even if someone died, they weren't liable because everyone signed a waiver. They even had someone call up during the show to warn them that people could die from too much water, and they laughed, then asked the guy that was in the room with the contestants, 'Is anyone dying in there?' the woman who ended up dying was on the air complaining of a headache, the djs said she 'looked pregnant' after consuming about 2 gallons of water.
very sad situation, I can understand the DJ's losing their jobs, but they fired 10 people and there is now huge lawsuit but, she signed the waiver!
Within the past year there was a national story about a fraternity which forced newbies to drink gallons of water until one or two of them died. Experts were interviewed afterwards who discussed how the consumption of excess water can overwhelm your system...and in this case result in death. Surely any responsible contest, show, or event would have excluded this kind of stunt from its list of things to do from that point on?
