Can anyone recommend a really cheap but decent place to get your hair cut? Im not in the mood to pay 600 - 2000 for a simple touch up... :O The one I know of, just moved back to DF...
There is a place, several places actually, on Calle 10, near the Crucero. It is across the street from Plaza 2000, and 10th is the last street before you get to Lopez Portillo, but it runs one way toward Tulum. There is a paleteria on the corner. I would suggest the first salon on the left. The only thing is a head's up. The stylists are all men, dressed as women. But they do a good job and the cost is minimal. Let us know how it works out for you. This is no joke Rawkus. I went there several times before I started shaving my head. The cutters are polite and friendly and do their jobs.
Thanks TJ! Have no issue whatsoever regarding how they are dressed, haha. Ive shaved my head since I was 17, so now I thought it would be fun to grow it, at least for a bit/while. The thing is that its growing like weed! (No, not THAT kind of weed)
Take your camera and post a video. It seemed strange when I first went, probably 2004. Not so strange in 2012. To each his/her own.
I want a transvestite hair dresser too! But seriously, be careful while in the neighborhood. It is Cancun's pick pocket center in Centro! Another place I do have experience with is the salon at Walmart! When I went a couple years ago, it was 110 pesos for a short cut. Best DA ever at the time. Here on Isla Mujeres, I have a hairdresser who does a better job for 60 pesos.
Isla Zina: Thanks for the heads up. Im more than familiar with Crucero and the entire Portillo area, hehe. The 60 peso thing is EXACTLY what Im looking for
Based on my husband's consistently going to that area for hair cuts, I think you can't go wrong with any of them. You can pretty much pick any of the storefronts and get a good, cheap haircut.
If you're looking for somewhere really "affordable", then you can't go wrong at Mercado 23, there's a place there that charges a mere 30 pesos, and has always done a good job for me! Ironically the only complaint I've had about hairdressers in Cancun was after paying more in Las Americas, I went to the market afterwards to sort it out!
Just got back from "Sonias Saloon" at Market 23. Can ONLY recommend her! 30 pesos - almost the same price as 1 liter of milk costs back home IF anyone goes, make sure to ask for Sonia herself. Really sweet lady who did a great job. Yaaaaay for cheap, Mexican hairdressers
