I'm curious how many single people moved to Cancun and became long-term expats. (See Poll.)

I met my bf here on vacation almost 2 yrs ago, and after a year of me making the trek every 2 months to see him, we decided enough already. So, here I am with him...been here almost 9 months and loving it. I did come here though with every intention to stay even if the relationship didn't survive. He was my #1 reason on moving here, but not the only reason.

    Uncomplicated version ; hahaha:)

I originally moved down in 2003-2004 for a job I got applying on-line (not in a hotel either!!!). I met my hubby, but we didnĀ“t start dating until it was almost time for me to go home.... He then moved to Canada with me for 6 years as I wanted to complete my University degree. We made the move back here 7 months ago, and so far, so good.

Met my wife whilst living in Australia. Both of us wanted to get away from OZ for at least a few years.

Started with a couple of months in DF(shes from there), but it was "a bit" overwhelming...

Technically I came here to be with my boyfriend at the time... but we broke up 2 months later and he was a jerk the entire time anyway, so I say it counts as coming alone haha.

Couldn't be happier with the way everything worked out though!!

Moved here together (both of us from USA) with the intention of trying it for two months: we're still here after fifteen! So far so good

I got the FM3, bought the house, supervised the movers for 6 months (!) by myself. I survived a Category 5 hurricane alone and with the help of my neighbors, just like we all helped each otther then.
I have lived on Isla Mujeres alone and run two apartments as a B&B alone. I think I am here to stay!
Yes, it is safe here for a woman alone. I advise really good Spanish comprehension even if your own grammar sucks for any extranjeras!

Hmm, not sure what category I would fall into. I came on vacation in 2003, met current Hubby and stayed. So, not really a reunited thing as I didn't leave, more of a stayed here to find out how it goes thing. I guess technically I moved here alone, but I only stayed for him.

Not sure if my vote counts since we moved back to the States. :) I met my current husband while doing fieldwork in his village, then came back to the US to write with the intention of finishing my degree requirements and saving some $$. I moved back to see if things would work out with him...was almost about to use my return ticket home because he had some cold feet about leaving his village to come to Cancun. But the week before I was supposed to go home, I was offered the only job I'd applied for and he show up with a backpack.

I'd previously only spent like 7 nights tops in Cancun (4 in region 103 and 3 in a hotel near Mercado 28). Moved back here and brought him because I was never going to go anywhere professionally in Cancun....but will move back once I'm able to make a good income writing and translating as a freelancer. Well, maybe not that soon, as I'm really enjoying my job now.
