Ok, I haven't been able to post much today but I spent that driving from the relative warmth of Calgary to Fort McMurray, Alberta the last couple of days and setting up to drill a well that's going to be a lot of work.

On the way up, once in a while, ALWAYS when not moving if the RCMP happen to be checking, I have watched a few threads.

    -Too many single men!
    -What's happened to TTR?
-How would you improve TTR without making it more expensive?
    -Chairs at the Sexy Pool?

I drove many, many hours watching the temperature drop from about 4C (~38F) to -20C (-4F) in snowy sometimes slow traffic and then setting up my work area on site tonight. Something was going through my mind and I couldn't quite put my finger on it... Then I remembered a quote from Christmas vacation which I'll paraphrase.

"Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned TTR Vacation. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest holiday since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when the cleaning crew squeeze their asses past our drunken passed out broken bodies tonight, they'll find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse".

The world is not ending! In fact, some of the things may be related to eachother. But first the one that absolutely should be fixed:

-Chairs, yup, saving them before about 4 am is pretty lame and shouldn't be allowed by the hotel as a policy. Especially if you have no intention of showing up until lunchtime.

Now the rest I can look at from a distance and make a picture in my mind of what's happening and why some things are going the way they are.

    1) It seems that the hotel may be putting fewer resources into TTR (ie. staff)

The hotel just took over another property in the last year (Pearl) and seems to be pushing that one. Also, they want to get more families going to Sea Adventure (got a mention in a Fox News article, as well as Desire). As a result to push one you take resources from the other. Temptation is pretty much full all the time. It may be strategic on their part, even if may not be right.

    2) Large unruly groups of young British men during Spring Break

Combine booze, the promise (albeit marketing in the UK) of women wanting to mess around with, and peer pressure well and you end up seeing some of the bad things that people have complained about here recently, and in the past.

It's not a single guy problem, it's a moron problem. TTR needs to market away from that demographic and steer them towards places like Oasis where they belong.

And number 1 (minor) and number 2 (moreso) combine into the next in my minirant...

    3) THEY ARE SHUTTING DOWN PATY O's at 2 AM!!!

For those large groups of singles who want to drink like fish and pick up everything that moves, this will make them more likely to want to head to the bars and annoy the women there, not at TTR!

It is also closer to the policy of the hotel before the transition from BBG to TTR. They used to close the bars down by 1am. After which time if you wanted to keep drinking at Paty O's etc. you supplied your own.

And from what I can remember, it was a FUCKING BLAST!!!

I remember piling into a cab at 1am with another guy (smart enough to stay safe that way) and go to a convenience store where we picked up about 48 cans of beer one night. Other people had hard stuff etc.

About 10 of us sat in Paty O's and drank like fish, we made more friends as people came over looking for a drink which we provided.

MEANWHILE the walking hormones in the group, were at the City, Coco Bongo, Dady O' etc. either picking up or failing with non resort demographically correct women.

By the time they came back, at 4-6am they were smashed and ready to go to bed, not to be seen until the next afternoon.

Late at night this in my opinion ends up being more fun having the bar closed at 2, and will likely lead to less bad situations on the resort at night, since the problem makers will flock to the greener pastures of the bars most nights.

And finally, your trip will go better if you look for a way for it to be better! Chairs, some unruly guests, an earlier closing bar. Really don't take too much away. After 2am if you walk around the resort generally few people are still moving. Hide water baloons underneath towels set on chairs, hell shuffle them around the pool area soy have to go hunting for their seat in the morning! Pick up a new bottle of rum, a dozen different local beers, bring them out late at night, share and make more friends! All the better if you know a guitarist (Hi Bruce!).

Don't make me buy a bullhorn, dress up in a cheerleader uniform and do a dance to cheer you up now folks!

Oh yeah, pay no heed to the Ms. TTR contest. They will ensure that they get the result they want (or the net will produce it). Like my experiences hitting on hot lesbians, there is simply no way it's going to end well, no matter how many jager bombs, glasses of wine, meals, shoes, cars you buy her.

And I am pretty sure I rambled here, or showed bad grammar... I just can't be bothered to check! For those who are getting ready to go in the next few months, like me, look for the positive! Bury the negative in the sand and leave it for dead!

I think I should sleep now lol.

(note this was lack of sleep derived and not affected by alcohol, because they don't allow it on site...)

Good job putting things in perspective.

It comes in waves on the site. For a couple weeks the posts MAY over hype and people get all sexed up and there is a wave of skimpy picture posts, swinger questions and trip reports talking about the best week of their life. Then it swings the other way as there are a couple posts about the singles, room/food quality, chair issues, pics etc that sets off a wave of panic.

End result is, like Keith points out, YOUR vacation is what YOU make of it. I am going to MAKE my vacation the best of my life and I hope everyone else there the last week of April joins me. Keith count me in for that 2am beer run (if necessary). I will bring the b b gun!

Great post. It's amazing how over time the issues that came up during a trip fade, but the good times become legendary.
