Hi all, I am in the process of bringing back to the U.S. a dog I rescued in June. Since then, he has been with a wonderful person who works with Coco's Cat rescue and now he his healthy enough to travel. I found out today, that since I booked my flight down on Continental, the kennel I was planning on bringing down to Playa is oversize and they charge $200 for oversize items. If anyone knows of someone who is selling a large kennel or a place where one can be purchased relatively easily and inexpensively since I'll only be there for four days to pick him up I would be forever grateful. I heard Costco has them but I do not have a membership there nor do I have a car to get there. Thank you, Sue
Sue: The kennels they sell(the only ones Ive seen) in COSTCO are size Large. The COSTCO one are the best when it comes to the price. Last time I bought one, it cost me 1700 pesos, compared to +3000 in petshops... What size does he/she require? They are very expensive in Mexico, and whenever Ive sent dogs to Canada/US to new homes, Ive used "recycled" kennels, that Ive borrowed from various rescue groups, such as CANDI(Cats and Dogs International), Rescate Malix etc. I think Ive seen Laura from COCO´s during the free spay/neuter clinics we have here from time to time, so she should have contacts for kennels, Im sure. Alison from "Isla Animals Dog Rescue" should have contacts as well. I suggest asking Laura, Eddy and/or Angie(Rescate Malix), email Darci Gallati(CANDI) and Alison(Isla Animals). Kennels are way cheaper in US/Canada than here, so buying a used one before you leave, could be a solution? If you need COSTCO, Ill be more than willing to help you purchasing it with our card. Wont be able to drive you all the way to Playa though, sorry.
Thanks for the info. Strays are such loving animals and they have so much to give. I have a weim here in the States now that was found wandering also 6 years ago. He's struggling with tumors now and lymphoma but his eyes are still bright and he's such a big boy. Our new guy has been through so many procedures to get well and now he's finally coming home. The cost of kennels is so high and, if I had known the cost difference in the airlines, I would have booked Frontier instead...next time I'll do my homework on that one. Also, thanks for the offer of getting me into Costco. I will let you know if I need help with that. I can always take it on the bus back to Playa. Sue
Any updates on dog kennels?? We left Cancun in June, but left our dogs with family. Now, we need to fly them out of Cancun, but the vet's office wants over 2,000 pesos for each kennel (we have 2 dogs). I had a friend check at Costco, and they didn't have anything. We need one large and one medium..or two large. If anyone knows of any current sales, any and all info would be appreciated... Thanks!
You're right, Costco didn't have any. I ended up borrowing one that I will return in December. The cost was prohibitive on one airline to bring one down and in Dec it is less than half that cost. Check with the rescue organizations if you plan on returning it. They are certainly in short supply. On a great note, my pup is here in the U.S. and we are doing well. Thanks to all who responded and helped.
Servi Star is the best bargain. There are puter stores in the malls pronounced Mas-COAT-ah, but the sign, logo on the store is creatively +KOTA. Mascota is the spanish word for pet.
The great news is - I got Ziggy back to the U.S. from Playa a couple of weeks ago with the help of the great people at Coco's Cat Rescue. Ziggy was rescued in front of my condo in June and was nursed back to health with the unbelieveable help from everyone at Coco's, the vets and other wonderful folks who came to his aid. I had posted on here that I needed a kennel to be able to take him back in Sept, again, Coco's came through with a huge one. Now the need in reverse, the rescue is in dire need of kennels right now. I had planned on returning it in December when I get back but would be so grateful if anyone traveling from the Denver area to Cun would be able to mule it back down for me now or in the next couple of weeks. I am very willing to pay the extra charge the airlines get (except Continental/United who wanted 200 US) . I will deliver the kennel to you at the airport and pay your fee at the check-in counter for you to do this. I, and the animals who would benefit, would be so grateful for your generosity. Rescue dogs and cats are the best Ziggy is doing amazingly well and is laying here at my feet right now. What a pup. Sue
