Is there any special tax to pay when arriving or leaving Mexico?

If so how much? And where does one pay?

Just want to make sure no hidden surprises take the edge off our trip in May!!

    Thanks

Best thing to do would be to call your travel agent...they shld def know about extras like that but I doubt it. I do know they have that in the Domincan Republic but never seen it in Mexico all the times we have been.

Well I can tell you for a fact, that you do pay a departure tax when leaving Mexico. We were there in January, flying back to Gatwick. It does work out as about £35-40 but can be paid in pesos or US$, they will tell you how much, but we paid in pesos since that's what we had left over.
When you get to the airport, you will join a queue where they take the tax off you before you go to the check-in desk.
    Hope this was helpful.

EDIT: In fact here is the quote from Cancun Airport website:
    Q) Is there a departure tax?
    A) Yes there is. Most of the time this airport tax is included in the price of your ticket. Please check with your airline or check your airline ticket to make sure the tax is included. Depending on the exchange the tax is around $48.00 USD per person.

    See http://www.cancun-airport.com/faq.htm for more info.

There is a departure tax of 750 pesos or £38 when leaving it is paid at airport, Americans don't have to pay as airline includes it in ticket.
