but the carry on has to be no bigger than a certain size, which is way smaller than it was a few years ago. If you have questions call Delta Customer service
Depends on the plane, anything smaller than a MD-88 and you are going to have to plane side check your bag, but that is still free. I have been using the same carry-on, a Delsey Featherlite for about 4 years and nearly 200 flights. It is very similar to this one: https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-981902/delsey-luggage-air-flite-21-in-wheeled-carry-on.jsp
Thanks so much for the information! We'll fly out of Atlanta so the plane will be bigger, I guess. We don't fly often but were told that the airlines measure carry on bags.
Ladyntramp: We flight out of Atlanta also and the dimensions for carry ons are hidden in the Delta baggage requirements on their site. I think it was 24x16x10. Delta allows the first checked bag for free so that really lowers the cost of flying to Cancun.
Airtran "seems" to be a bit more nit-picky about the sizes of carryons than Delta. One trip to MBJ, we asked the ticket agent if our carry on was small enough. she told us it was!! However on the plane the flight attendants started complainning as soon as we stepped onboard. You would have thought we were flying Spirit.
