We have a group going in September, at least four of us would like to charter our own boat out of Cancun, without having to travel down to Playa. Does anyone have any tips for a charter out of Cancun? I heard some will come pick you up from the resort, and they'll refund your money if you don't catch any fish.
I've not heard of the refund if you dont catch offer, although it is rare that nobody catches anything. But I could set a private charter up for you with a great little fishing company. Only thing is I'm in the UK at the moment and dont have the details to hand, if you want to contact me this time next week I'll be back in Cancun and can let you know several options and prices.
Sorry for the delay, I forgot about this one. For fishing I really recommend the guys that go out from right by Temptation (Kin Ha) their prices are as follows: 6 people (31 foot Bertram includes, two fishing seats, 4 lines, out and down rigger, fish finder, stereo, radio, gps, safety equipment, open bar and crew) 4 hrs - $460 6 hrs - $580 8 hrs - $690 8 people (33 or 35 foot Bertram includes, two fishing seats, 4 lines, out and down rigger, fish finder, stereo, radio, gps, safety equipment, open bar and crew) 4 hrs $580 6 hrs $690 8 hrs $795 Private transport can be arranged - a van for $30 each way. I know you mentioned "at least 4 people", it would be best if you have at least 6. It's a bit tough to arrange a private charter for 4, you'd probably have to split the 6 person price 4 ways - or I can get you in on a party fishing trip where there'll be another 2 people not from your group in addition to your 4.
Follow-up: We paid $580 for two of us on a 31' private charter that lasted six hours, thought that was pretty good compared to some of the rates we were seeing. Same price as Steve's suggestion at the marina near Temptation, we used a guy out of Aqua World though. The slow season is the time to bargain for deals.
