I voted no - it would only be a lateral transfer of problems they cause.

    speaking of problems they cause.....

about 8 months ago I had a criminal drug conspiracy case where about 15 people were charged. The chicago police department videotaped this group of folks dealing drugs in an ally. On one of the tapes, it showed them giving away drugs to anybody who wanted some. (it's called a Hype March) (they do that to get them hooked & increase customer base)

Unfortunately, for ALOT of folks that took the free drugs, they got drugs that had Fentynal in it......many of them died of an overdose cause they didn't know the Fentynal was in it and took the entire dose at one time.

Thats another sick marketing tool of drug dealers. If a bunch of people overdose other users will figure that the drugs are super strong and try to get the same stuff that others overdosed on.

I am totally for ligalizing them. How else would you put an end to the drug cartels? There's too much money being made to buy any police, any judge, any gov' official. Have we not learned anything from history? What did prohibition accomplish besides the formation of gangs and corruption?

Tax the the hell out of the dope and use the revenue to fund rehab centers and prevention centers. It worked in Amsterdam. Which city has the smallest index of drug addiction?..yep.

Setting aside all morality standars, what would the difference be? Whoever wants dope it's gonna get it either way. Regulating the sales and limiting the legalization to certain towns would not be a bad idea.

And if it doesn't work, cheange the laws back again. Some times to find out, people need to experiment. Aren't the laws the same way. Once a law becomes obsolete, it needs to be changed.

I'll be gone for the weekend so feel free flame me until Monday.

Oh gosh.....please don't start a flame war. That's not the intent of the original post. I just like to post on controversial topics to keep people talking to one another and engaging in civil discourse.

One of the reasons I picked this particular issue is because I keep waffling back & forth on whether drugs should be legal. There are some great arguments on both sides of the coin.

In Ann Arbor, Michigan, a certain amount of weed is legal (not sure what the amout is) and they haven't had any problems as a result of that.

I would imagine if drugs were legal, ALOT more people would be using them. If the government regulated it in some way, that would provide for more job creation within Mexico. It would provide a boost to the economy, I would think. You could control the amount a person could buy within a certain time period to try to cut down on OD's. You could make it prescription only. Tax the hell out of it. Make it super expensive. Cut down the potency of them. There are some creative things that could be done to minimize negative impact.

Dunno that legalizing drugs would get rid of the cartels tho. If they weren't running drugs, they'd be running something, Just like the mafia here in the states.

I would imagine that even if the government did regulate them, there would proly be a black market still going on. Just like folks here in the US selling moon shine for profit.

I agree with ya that prohibition was a joke! WTF were they thinkin.....
