so i'm getting a little confused about this whole declaring thing at customs. Do i have to declare my personal effects? what if I am taking more then 300 cash? and how much are the fees they will charge? thanks in advance!
You do not have to declare personal effects or cash unless it is more then the customs form specifies. Not one person will worry about bringing in $300 to Cancun. If anything people bring far more then that.
The customs form states that you may bring in "goods" and personal items whose total value does not exceed USD300 per each person. You must declare "yes" if you bring in more that USD 10,000 equivalent of monetary instruments, if not, check NO. Hope this helps, http://www.aduanas.gob.mx/aduana_mexico/2007/RCGMCE/2007/declaracion_aduanas_ingles.pdf
I have read the us custom forms and I haven't seen anything about $300. Thier is no limit on you personal belongings. Now you are only allowed $800 in duty free purchases on return anything over that will simply be taxed and only have to claim money in excess of $10,000. If I had a limit of $300 dollars on personal belongings I could take my shoes.
There are certain per person limits, like only one laptop, no desktops, limits on tobacco and alcohol, cameras but, normally, you will not have to worry about what you bring unless you are weird. The penalty, should you go over the limit is 15% of the amount in excess of the $300 (or $1,000) allowable amount. This form has been updated but the "guts" of it are the same as this one: http://www.aduanas.gob.mx/aduana_me...DUANAS_(INGLES)_final_191005_check_211005.pdf This site might also be of help: Pasajeros - Passengers arriving by airplane - SAT México
Thanks T.J. I was looking at Customs into US. I did't know I could only take One camera, that is good to know. But other than that I'm good to go.
only one musical instrument too. . .go figure. . .I always take my Baby Taylor but was planning on taking a little Fender mandolin last spring until I read the restriction.
