Is there any VIP line bypass at CUN airport? If so where do I make a reservation for that. At POP airport they offer that service where they greet you give you a drink, process your customs forms and stamp your passport then walk you right out of the airport. I am hoping they offer a service like that in Cancun. Thanks
NO, not that I know of. When you arrive you first hit immigration, get your passport stamped. Next is baggage claim. Once you have your bags you have to get in the customs queue. You will push a button and either get the RED light or the GREEN light. Red light = random search, green light = no search. Customs seems to be running faster now as they are only x-ray'ing the Red Light people's luggage instead of everyone's luggage. I think TJ has Global Entry. TJ does that make the arrival process into Cancun any faster for you?
I have NEXXUS / Global Entry only good in Canada and USA. I've been to CUN many times and always hated the line at immigration I find it takes forever because of so many planes landing at the same time. It's been 2 years since I have been so hopefully like you say it is quicker. In POP they have an incoming lounge which handles this service for me and it's absolutely amazing. My Priority Pass membership covers it but even if you didn't have that it's only 25 US dollars for that service and it includes as much booze as you want, lol. I usually only have 1 quick one in there then they make me a to go one that I leave the airport with for my taxi ride. Thanks for the information
I don't get it. Two trips and it hasn't taken us longer than 15 minutes to get past the red light green light.. I guess we just have good timing Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I've had times where I've waited almost an hour to pass immigration. Not that big a deal if they don't. It is what it is so I'll just hope I don't arrive at a time with many other planes, lol.
Right, the lines depend on how many other planes land at the same time and how many agents they have working. My travel partner makes sure we are one of the first people off the plane to speed up the process, but really, it is what it is. My friends came in November and while that is usually a slow time in Cancun, they had a 3.5 hour wait to exit the airport. A frosty beverage for the ride to the hotel usually helps you forget all about the hassle.
burroloco, There is no expedited entry into Mexico at the moment. There has been talk that CBP will expand for arrivals INTO certain Mexico destinations. They will have another fee of $100 for 5 years, which is really bogus. But there has been no announcement of this as a done deal. On which airline are you arriving? Most, but not all, International flights arrive at the International Terminal, aka Terminal 3. Some arrive though at Terminal 2. JetBlue and AirTran are two that come to mind. Trina arrived from JFK in Sept and breezed right thru, as I did in Sept and May, also from JFK. It sounds like you are an experienced traveler but I always sit in the front of the plane. i don't have to wait forever to get off the plane while folks are trying to find their belongings. I know where I am going when I get off the plane and no one ever gets to Immigration before I do. That's a big help. But it can be a mess if your plane is too early and other on time flights have not yet cleared. But if even one earlier flight is ahead of schedule and you are a few minutes late, there can be zero ppl in line. My JB flight from JFK in May arrived on time and I was in row 2 with no one else in the first 5 rows. (Even got a free upgrade by being polite. Free drink too. Sweet.) Got to INM as we call Immigration, obviously before anyone else and it was like kicking an ant hill as the agents were scrambling to get to their stations. Got nabbed by Aduana (Customs) and got detained a few minutes. Seems I forgot to declare a couple of items I deemed personal/exempt and they deemed otherwise. The flight arrived Cancun after 9 pm. So your time to clear depends on several factors. Cheers, and I love Global Entry. The best investment a traveler can make.
I guess you could say I'm an experienced traveller, lol. I think this will make 22 times to Cancun and that's not the only place I've been lol. I really can't remember at this point, to much alcohol I guess on my vacations, lol. I fly in on Sunwing next Sunday July 28 from YUL at 10:00am. I believe we land at Terminal 2. I'm going to check the arrivals tomorrow to see what other airlines are landing around that time to be able to gauge how much I will have to rush to customs but I'm sure it will be busy as that is getting into prime time for arrivals. And I agree Global Entry / NEXXUS is amazing. I have been able to fly thru airports very quickly and have many times made the earlier connecting flight because I got to my gate very early. I remember one time flying from Puerto Plata into Miami to connect to Montreal. As soon as I got off the plane I timed how long it took me to go thru customs and them thru security and switch terminals and to my gate. Under 15 minutes. For sure the best 50 dollar investment I have made. Thanks for the information TJ.
Good luck burroloco, When I leave Cancun, usually to JFK, I try to arrive back as late as possible, however, never as early as 10am. But I really think you will be much better coming in to Terminal 2 than into Terminal 3. T2 is called the National Terminal for a good reason. You should be just fine. I think JetBlue and AirTran are the primary US carriers that fly into Terminal 2 and they both run pretty smooth operations.
