Last night we picked up our daughter and son-in-law at Terminal 3 . They were on the incoming AA flight from Dallas. They proceeded through immigration and then picked up their luggage from the carousel. They proceeded towards the red light/green light customs area, just before the lights they put everything, (checked and carry-ons) onto a conveyor x-ray machine. After retrieving their bags from this machine they pushed the button and were green lighted. However after going past the light they were asked to present their bags for examination anyway. The x-ray machine attendant had seen something within the suitcases. They were bringing us several food items that we cannot buy here. They had declared that they were bringing in these food items on the paperwork they filled out enroute. They were only asked if they were bringing in "beef jerky" which they weren't. One item was several wrapped beef flavored bones for our dogs, several cans of corned beef hash, some cans of baked beans, Underwood Deviled ham, crackers, and more. They confiscated the dog bones and the corned beef hash. They pointed at the lablels and said anything that had "BEEF" as an ingrediant could not be brought in.Even though it was processed and canned. So I post this so you don't waste your money like we did. We have had the exact same items brought in 3-4 times a year in the past by our visitors........... but now suddenly it's not allowed............I love Mexico! :?: :-| :!: :!:
Tom, importation of meat products in this way have not been allowed for years, at least as long as I can remember when traveling from the UK. Of course, things can slip through if you're not caught which I guess is the case with your previous guests, but I dont think this stance is a new one. To be honest I'm surprised they let the Ham through.
Beef? Who's got the beef? Thanks Steve..........I was not aware of that. I guess we were just living a charmed life for awhile. I going to have to start a serious withdrawal process to have a breakfast with out my corned beef hash!
May sound like a dumb question, but are you allowed to take vitamin tablets which have already been opened in your suitcase?? thanks.
Tom, We brought in some food items when we last came in and were asked where we were staying. When we said a hotel, they said OK and let us pass. We have to bring stuff for Chris as she has special diet restrictions. So next time have them say they are staying at a hotel and not a home and they might get it through.... And yes you can bring in vitamins that have been previously openned. Jamie
I too had doggie treats that contained beef taken away by customs. This is not a new practice. And actually all other meat products, pork, chicken, fish, etc are allowed to be brought in. Only beef is prohibited. Next time, take them from your luggage and put them in your pocket. Works for me.
