Can anyone in Cancun tell me what the current exchange rate is right now. I want to compare it to my local rates. Sometimes I can get a much better rate up here...

    Thanks :D

Downtown exchange booths are offering 13.1 to the dollar. At a hotel (or in the hotel zone) its likely worse than that.

Today's closing Banamex rates were $13.01 to buy pesos/sell dollars and $13.46 to buy dollars/sell pesos.

My bet is that Steve's post was a typo at $13.1 that was meant to be $13.01 OR that was the buy dollars/sell pesos rate, which they often post in big numbers, with the lower buy pesos/sell dollars rate shown in smaller numbers. The old bait and switch deal.

The Banamex rates are "real" rates and you can walk into the bank and that is what it is. Daily fluctuations are available on the website 25 minutes after the change.

    Hope this helps.

    PS

Most ppl use newspapers or some online sites like Oanda and others to check on the exchange rates (or tipo de cambio).

The only truly accurate site I have found, and therefore use, is www.banamex.com.mx and it shows the up to date, within 20 minutes, rates on the home page.

These are the rates that you can actually walk in to Banamex and get. The other banks are typically only a couple of pesos difference either way. The rates are worse at the exchange booth, casa de cambio. THe rates at the hotels could be better or could be worse. You just have to check.
