    Hi guys,

I would like to know what's the best currency to take to Cancun?

Are Pesos sufficient or should I bring Dollars? Also is it advisable to withdraw money from ATMs and do they dispense Dollars?

    Thank you

First time visiting Cancun and Temptations.

We just bring dollars and enough to not use ATM. So I don't know what the atm's give out. There are places you do exchange to get pesos but we have never needed them and usually just bring them home if we are given change in pesos.

Watch those bus driver they will try to steal you tho :) so if you give 20 Us $ and you know it's 1 $, they will give you back 180 pesos, just count make sure ! They try too steal us :p

I agree, try to keep your dollars...they'll work fine almost anywhere you go. ATM's dispense pesos only! I'm not sure how U.S. banks workout the exchange rate with the ATM's down there, but I've always been on the losing end of the exchange rate when converting money back to U.S. dollars. I've used ATM's only when needed, and I take out only what I've needed. Also be aware that many ATM's are in Spanish ONLY! and taking the equivalent $50(U.S.) will look something like $500 pesos.....$120 U.S./$1200 pesos or so on an ATM machine. These aren't exact rates but they should be close.

check out the exchange rate right before you go, some times you do a lot better with pesos. Every one there takes dollars, but they give you change in pesos so you lose out because the don't give you a fare exchange rate

Currency exchange rate for today (06/11) is 1 Peso = $ .077 Dollars US. That's approx. 13 pesos to the dollar. (or $ 1 US = 12.98 Pesos)
For ease of math many people just say 10 peso = 1 dollar (easy math, a peso is a dime), however you are screwing yourself on that rate. If your tipping dollars its not much but, buying something for say $100 you'de have lost $23 buying power.
The best exchange rate is always at a bank, not at the airport and not at the hotel !
There is a bank in Plaza Kukulcan that is convenient. I'm sure there are others too.
The dollar is a bit stronger against the peso right now but pretty close to average over the last 4 years.

Just bring hundreds of 1's and 5's...Never use the ATM and you can also change big bills at the front desk for pesos...usually better than the 10-1 ratio...if you exchange bills and you normally tip $2 for drinks...when all is said and done tipping 20 pesos instead saves you a lil here and there

It depends what you're going to do. If you're going to stay on the resort all trip then I'd stick with dollars, if you're going to go out and tour the market, buy a meal off-resort or go to Walmart, I'd recommend getting at least $100 in pesos (low notes). Things like tours or bar hopping, you're better off with dollars as they seem to be always quoted in dollars and less chance you'll get ripped off converting into pesos.
