My girlfriend and I are gonna be at the temptations resort from feb 26 - march 4th woooo! Just wondering how much you think we'd need to survive a week there. We would like to go on atleast one excursion, go out to a club or two. Bring back a couple souvenirs. How much would one person need?
Also ive read many different answers in regards to using american dollar or mexican pesos. What works the best? Ive been told american dollars are being shunned down there as of late? Any help would be great!!

and hey if you wanna recommend any excursions or activities, be my guest!!

    thanks!

They love USD... If your planning to do excursions, night clubs off the resort and souveniers and tipping I would suggest $500. Better to have too much than too little.

Our first trip was last April for 1 week and we didn't leave the resort at all. There was always enough stuff on the go to keep us occupied. We are going this April for 2 weeks so we might try something off the resort but nothing planned. Do try a Boobs Cruise if there is one going on during the week you are there...heard there a blast and looking forward to going on one ourselves this year.

You will get a slightly better deal when negotiating with sellers to buy items in Pesos, as they normally just add a zero from the price in Dollars to convert it to Pesos (especially taxi drivers).

That being said, I felt that when tipping, staff preferred Dollars to Pesos, so might consider getting more Dollars for tips next time.

It's totally up to you, but if USD is not your native currency you will lose $$ every time you convert and you will lose further since USD is not the native currency of Mexico and each time you purchase something in Mexico the vendor will only give you a conversion rate that is most favorable to themselves.

Pesos are easily available at any bank in Toronto, just give them a day or twos notice of how much(in Pesos) you want.

Right now $1 CAD converts to just over 12 MXP

As an example of how your $$ will go further

If you take a taxi and the taxi rate for the trip is 200 MXP - if you pay in USD they will expect $20 USD(they only consider a 10:1 conversion ratio - same with most shopkeepers).

You are already losing about 2% in fees at the bank to convert to USD or MXP

So if you pay in USD that taxi ride would cost you $20.40 CAD (includes bank conversion fee)

If you pay in MXP that taxi ride would cost you $ 16 CAD (includes bank conversion fee)

As you can see your hard earned vacation $$ are worth close to 25% more using MXP.

MXP is the official currency of the country......................

We exchanged $500 Canadian dollars at Pearson Int'l and with that we could exchange any unused MXP back into Canadian when we returned without the service charges. Mind you we spent it all on tips, clothes, trips etc etc. I agree with the above statement, bring MXP to their country, it's easier to bargain and you wont lose as much in the conversions from Canadian to American to Mexican.

It is cheaper in some cases to do the converstion from CAD or USD to Pesos but we're on vacation so what the hell. For the money we'll save by using pesos it isn't worth it to us. But to each their own :)

We usually just bring USD, but having Pesos for tipping around the pools is nice because they are waterproof
