Does anyone know the best place to get currency? I was told I can do this at O'hare in chicago before I fly out, but I dont know if they will charge a % of the amount I try and convert or if its a free service?? Also, my bank might have currency but not sure?? Suggestions?

PS..... leaving for england friday night.

jason your bank for sure would have currency. i usually use the currency exchange place by my work..cuase they have better rates than the bank, and they dont charge a fee...the one at the airport might charge a fee, i dont know ive never used an airport one.. but i dont think the rates are as good if you were to use a smaller independant place like at the mall or some place else... i know they are everywhere here...so perhaps theres one closer to you than the airport?

check the yellow pages for a currency exchange outlet close to you?

called my bank, they dont! I will likely just wait until after I check in at the airport and use theirs. I have the number, I will call and see what, if any, they charge for exchange and what rate they currently use.

I think that a lot of banks will exchange but you have to order the currency ahead of time. And you are probably too short on time at this point. Question is, would you get a better rate here or when you arrive in the UK?

I called the airport and they dont charge for the amount of currency I am converting over. Also, I get that rate when I return. And from what I am told, I would be smart to convert my money before I leave for the best rates.

yeah do that, dont change it over here; they normally 'buy back' currency at a much lower rate

I've sent you a reply over on FB but it keep's crashing so I'll post here.

On pain of death bring dollars to change up here in the UK. The current sell rate ( what the banks will pay per £ sterling changed to $'s is $1.33 per £1, but in your case the buy back rate from $ to £'s is $1.51 per £1 , thats approx a 17% difference and if for example your coming across here to pay for a night out on the piss with me I can see it costing you several thousand dollars in lost coin at the travel exch

Seriously though, get your money changed up over there, use your cards or don't come. I vote for option 3 .

    'till Tuesday   .

    Ian
