Have been to TTR four times, and have always given pretty good tips to the staff for their excellent service. I wonder if anyone knows if the staff get to keep the individual tips they are given, or if they have to pool it back to the resort (or their section/dept) to be redistributed equally. Wouldn't change how i tip since they seem so appreciative, but it would be nice to know if the individual who receives the nice tip gets to keep it themselves.
I'm pretty sure I read on here that the bartenders pool their tips but I'm not sure about housekeeping etc
Eduardo the waiter in Patyos and in the buffet told us he keeps all his tips for himself..which is good cause we tip him well and he takes care of us nightly..hopefully he's there for Halloween!!
logic would predict that the waiters would have to give some of their tips to the bartenders seeing that can't pour their own drinks , and would have to wait behind the tipping patrons. I have heard either way as stated above. They do seem to rotate the staff alot lately, ( maybe share in the tip windfall ?)
I thought that also, maybe he just pockets the tip we hand him...who knows as long as our drinks are pretty strong were not complaining
When we were there we asked our waiter in the buffet restaurant about that and he told us that he splits them with the bartender and the manager as well
We always bring cash for tipping. The hours the staff works and the shit they put up with is amazing.
Can I piggyback + ask what are the *general* guidelines for tips? I usually give $1 (US) for each time I get drinks, but I don't do it every single time. (At the pool, wet money runs out quickly!) I usually leave $5 for housekeeping each day. But what else? How much do you tip the porter who carries your luggage up the STAIRS? (No elevators at Temptation!) Or if you go on an excursion, how much to tip the driver? My husband said $5 but I thought that was too much, maybe $2 or $3?
We tend to tip $2 for breakfast and lunch, $5 for housekeeping, $1-2 for when we get drinks (depending on how many, etc.), $5 for dinner, porter about $1-2/bag. There are also some specific people we give a larger tip on our last day because they give us such good service.
This year I just tipped certain people hard (like 20s) day 1 and 2. Then I just asked for them the rest of the week. Most times I didn't even need to ask for them, because they just grabbed me. Aside from dinner, because each night is somewhere else so the staff is different. This really seemed to work, and be appreciated the rest of the week.
