A couple of questions to those of you who have been to Cozumel. We are currently planning our 4th trip to TTR in 2 years, hopefully Feb 2013 but looking more like April 2013, and want to go spend a day down at Cozumel. Whats the fastest and cheapest way to get to the island? What are some fun things to do when you get there? Do you rent a golf cart like you do at Isla Mujeres or something else? Thanks for your help and input Chris and April
Cab for the day $200 from front lobby takes you to fairy $10 rent van for day with fuel $200 + Visit Naked beach frEE ( GREAT PIC OPP) Visit tequila factory $1 Day with friends PRICELESS
You can take the ADO bus from the station in downtown Cancun to Playa for $4 per person each way. The buses are very clean and comfortable. The bus station in Playa is only a short walk to the pier where you catch the ferry to Cozumel. Once in Cozumel you can rent a scooter, car or hire a cab. We did a scooter and travelled West to east across the center of the island and then all the way around the South end and back to the pier area. We stopped at a few sights along the way and had a good time. We feel that we actually had a much better time on our visits to Isla Mujeres though. Seemed like at least as much to do, but required much less area to cover and less $$. If you have never been to Cozumel, I'd definitely try it once anyhow. We love Playa del Carmen! A walk down 5th Ave. would add to your excursion. Lots of shopping, great restaurants and fun beach bars.
Fastest is never going to be the same as cheapest Fastest: Flights several times a day from Cancun (prices from $56 pp one way) - takes about 20 mins. https://www.mayair.com.mx/ Cheapest: ADO bus to Playa then ferry as JnL mention above. It's been 10 years since we went to Cozumel so cant really offer much on what to do once there.
Little planes scare the crap out of me, will go the bus/ferry route early AM..thanks for the responses helped a lot
I;ve been on a lot of planes,, the day we took the fairy it was fairly windy. It was 2 time more scarier then flying. 3/4 of the people had a bucket. The windows are scratched plexiglass and you couldn't see out whitch aggravated the problem. The plane ride sounds nice.
Make sure you hit Coconuts! They only stay open until about 7 because there isn't any power on that side of the island. The only warning I'll give you is you'll probably leave drunk, topless and you may find some temporary tattoos the next morning.
