After many years of bickering and fighting amongst hoteliers and cruise promoters to have a home port (where ships leave from as opposed to where they arrive) they finally have one on Cozumel. Since many Mexicans can't get visas to the U.S. and since virtually all cruise ships leave from there it has been difficult for many to take a cruise. They are now offering a 7-night cruise leaving from Cozumel and going to Grand Cayman, Jamaica and Costa Maya (Majahual?), Progreso and back. I saw a price list yesterday and prices range from $7,000 pesos per person for an interior cabin to $30,000 for exterior with balcony. Ships are good size. Let's see if they can generate enough interest and money to keep it going.
Thanks for that info Jim. Can you tell me where you read that, what Cruise Line, and an approximate start date? I ask because I am thinking Honeymoon plans and would love to do a cruise, but with the BF not so keen on applying for even a tourist visa, our options are limited and waaaaay expensive.
I will get the info for you. I knew people would ask for more info. It will be Monday probably. And that is a market they are after--people who can't get or don't want to ask BB for permission to travel.
Too Late, i wanted to go on a cruise a couple months back with my friends after graduating but we couldnt find any that left cozumel... i recently came across a poster from Felgueres (i think that is what its called) and the price was around 8500 i believe, probably can find it on their website viajesfelgueres dot com dot mx.
Jim: thanks a lot for posting this! My mom doesn't have a US visa and she's dying to go on a cruise. Please post more info as soon as you have it. thanks a lot! Diana
