I noticed Costco has closed the printing and computer area. That area is totally vacant except for a tire display. A clerk told me that it was a corporate decision and she did not know what was going to be there in the future. That area was always busy and it is hard to imagine they were not making money. But really, what does that have to do with anything?
It probably has to do with a lot of thinks and the fact that 1.- people don't need as many copies as before (remember when you had to have 5 copies of everything you owned before you could get an FM-3 or open an account of anything?). 2.- and if they do, they probably can print them at home or at work where they have a computer so don't need to use one in Costco. And I think those things have a lot to do with a lot about the growth and changes in Mexico. Good observation.
Jannet was told by a Costco employee that it was closed down due to the number of people copying school books and associated copyright infringement. At first they just banned the copying of books but it led to so many complaints and confrontations they just closed the whole section down. If true, I would guess that the decision was more due to pressure from the 'school book price fixing cartels' who find it perfectly fine to sell a book for 400 pesos that can be bought on Amazon brand new for a couple of dollars, rather than any legitimate copyright complaints. My daughter starts first grade next week and needs 19 text books, that's more than I ever bought for 3 years at University. Total cost somewhere in the region of 5,500 pesos and you must buy them from the schools 'official supplier'.
