Cory Lavigne (Gaspereau on the forum) Many of you will have heard that one of our TTR family passed away at the resort earlier this week. I am aware of various rumours circulating at the hotel and on Facebook and wanted to set the record straight. Vanessa and Cory have been good friends of ours for several years and we have been helping her through these last few difficult days. Vanessa, Cory's wife is on route home to Canada at the moment so I haven't been able to ask her permission to make this post, but thought it necessary to stop the rumour mill from continuing to turn. On Wednesday Cory and Vanessa went to Isla Mujeres, on their return Cory complained of discomfort in his legs - he had suffered from DVT's and clots in the past and had recently resumed medication to help with his condition. Later that night Cory felt unwell and got out of bed and went to the bathroom, where he collapsed. Vanessa heard him fall and could see he was in a bad way and sought help. The door locked behind her as she ran for help. At this point a special mention should go to Joshua Daniel who was in an adjacent room and gained access to their room via his balcony and tried to resuscitate Cory with CPR while paramedics were on their way. Vanessa called me at 2:30am in extreme panic as the paramedics tried to revive Cory, we arrived at the hospital about 10 minutes after they did. Tragically, Cory had passed before arriving at hospital. He was only 40yrs old and leaves behind two young children. Exact cause of death is unknown at the present time but is likely to be related to blood clot problems. Mexican authorities have recorded the death as natural causes. We stayed with Vanessa and Jannet helped her deal with the authorities; Police, Funeral Home, Hospital Administration, Doctors etc. Vanessa checked out of the hotel and stayed with us until her flight home earlier this morning. Cory will be repatriated early next week. I know there is one rumour that Vanessa was charged $40,000 by the hospital. This is untrue, ambulance and hospital costs amounted to around $1,500 and fortunately they were fully insured. However, Vanessa and their two children's lives have been turned upside down with the loss of a husband and father, and I would therefore encourage our TTR family to support the gofundme that has been set up in his memory. Link below. Click here to support Cory Lavigne Memorial Fund organized by Steve von Matt Jannet and I send our deepest sympathies to Vanessa, their two children and to the rest of the family on their loss. We had some good times with Cory, his exuberance and sense of humour will be missed, but we do hope that we will see Vanessa again one day. RIP my friend.
Thank you Steve. Our last dinner before leaving to come back home was with Cory and Vanessa. I will cherish that moment for the rest of my life. He will be miss and Vanessa will be in need of support from everyone.
Thank you both Steve and Jannet. Comforting to know Vanessa had you both there. And thank you for this post, it helps answer the questions everyone has had. Very well said, as usual.
Very sad. Appreciate you setting the story right Steve. And appreciate you being there for them in their time of need. Will check out the gofundme page
Steve.. That was the right thing to do. We have heard several rumors ourselves and I’m glad you set the record straight. We have met Corey and Vanessa several times and actually saw them on our trip last week. We don’t know them well at all, but they seemed like a great couple and we have nothing but positive things to say about the times we chatted. Such awful news. I genuinely have felt sick to my stomach all day texting the TTR family back and forth about this. Nice little reminder that life is short. Always love and live like tomorrow’s not promised.
Such sad news that we heard this morning, We were only chatting to Cory & Vanessa on Wednesday evening before our evening meal , our condolences go out to Vanessa and her family and friends at this sad time , and a big mention to Steve & Janet who have helped Vanessa through this terrible event in a foreign country , we have been thinking of Vanessa and Cory today at the sexy pool and realizing how cruel and short life can be , and you really have to live life to the full when you can , as Cory did . XXX
We live close to Vanessa & Cory...well in terms of TTR friends we live nearby because it’s 30 minutes in the car, not a flight. We just saw them at a local event on St. Patrick’s Day and had a blast dancing in true TTR crazy fun style! I will never forget his smile and energy that night it was electric. We send all of our love to her and the kids during this most difficult time. Nikki
