On the booze cruises we run we often have to procure 4 or 5 golf carts at once in quick time to run a lap of the island with our cruisers. Last Sunday (second time it has happened in consecutive trips) Jannet secures said carts only to be stopped by a small wizened Policia who hangs outside the golf cart place all day. He questions us ( well jannet I didnt understand a word) at length. Our 'crime' apparently is that we are hiring golf carts without going through the golf cart guy - i.e. the guy that stands at the entrance to the dock trying to get people to book carts via him and who is obviously making a commission from the golf cart place to do so. It doesnt take a lot of adding up to realise that this particular Policia is paid by the golf cart guy to hassle people in this way.
That whole thing makes no sense. You would think the guy at the golf cart place would be happy for walk up customers and unhappy that the cop is hanging outside his business. Maybe the Zetas are involved. By the time the cop harrasses the customer, the customer could go to another place and then the cops guys get nothing and neither does the merchant who was fortunate to have a walk in customer. That cop needs to be dealt with. I have never rented a cart at the piers. I used to go to the place by the restaurant Sombrero del Gomar but the last 2 times I went there they had no carts. So I made a left toward North Beach and found this place where I have gotten all day carts, the big ones, for $350. The second time I had to wheel and deal as a new girl was there but it didn't take long. Jeje.
