Id have filed a 500 million dollar lawsuit, settle our of court for 50-100 million or something like that! Its just a shame, but the worst is the police are trying to say 'wait" until the information is available before passing judgement. Well I have seen both videos, and read witnesses statements......... he wasn't resisting, and by all accounts, he was doing everything they said. Even the cop was suprised when he shot up, perhaps he thought it was his taser, but regardless, its murder!

Exactly!! They are full of sh*t!

They haven't even interviewed the officer yet....because of what he must be going through. WHAT ABOUT WHAT THE GRANT FAMILY IS GOING THROUGH!!!

But the family has the best lawyer...John Burris. He has never lost a case against the Oakland police.

If that cop doesnt get arrested for manslaughter or some type of murder, it will be the rodney king riots all over again. At least I think it should!! Firing him is at LEAST what should happen, but I feel he should be arrested for manslaughter and the family should be awarded millions!! Terrible! Sickens me

In my Canadian city, transit officers are not police officers, just glorified serurity officers, and they do not carry guns...

In this situation, Are they actual police officers, as in, with a specific city police force? it just seems weird that every person in some sort of enforcement, security etc etc capacity is given a gun, maybe that's the problem in the first place..

Our transit officers don't have guns, and from what I know have never needed the use of one. Try a baton, or pepper spray and maybe this situation wouldn't have happened.

This has to be horrible for the victim's family...

Just to update... they did charge the now ex-officer for this shooting.

I am thinking that the amount of money that the Grant family is seeking is probably within the boundaries of California law. You just know that a capable attorney wouldn't settle for anything less. Especially since their earnings depends upon it. And as Ladylegs has posted, it appears the Grant family has hired just that person.

Still a very bizarre and sad story.

Police Officers are trained to follow a Force Continuum. It essentially means that an officer is supposed to use an equal amount of force to bring a restraining offender under apprehension. This event was nothing less than an execution. Any monetary settlement reached will not fill the void that this officer has taken from this family.

I think they should get money and the ex officer should be charged and convicted of murder!
