Anyone know an inexpensive place to buy contact lenses? Do I have to get a prescription or can I just give them the one I already have? Just lost one today and realized I had no backups. Everything on my right side is blurry hahaha
when I lived here , I ordered them through 1-800 contacts , the only thing is that you have to have a U.S. address then get them shipped here via a friend/family. they still came out cheaper doing it this way. I heard that if you need a special prescription that they have to be shipped in from D.F. , which takes weeks. that is one thing I love about the states, calling that 1-800# and having the contacts at your doorstep in 2 days.
You can get disposable contacts almost anywhere although the brand selection may be a little thin.. if you're talking about hard contacts you'll need to go and have them made someplace. Getting a prescription here isn't an ordeal like the States, you can just go in, look in the machine, and leave with a box of contacts. The place at Walmart can test you (free) and give you a box of contacts.. (ask them to do the test twice and make sure the two print outs match up before you buy anything) I recommend Acuvue2 as they seem to be the most comfortable for most people.. not to be confused with Acuvue clear which I found unbearable (of' course everyone's eyes are different).... Acuvue Advanced is ok, but seems to rip easier than the Acuvue2.. haven't ever really tried other brands but Acuvue cost per box with 3, "15 day" pairs (I wear them a month or until they rip, actually says 30 days if you pull off the Spanish sticker and read the English) is around $300 pesos.... if you know the ones you want Costco often sells by the 4 boxes "pack" for around $200/box....
I've tried a few places, have now stuck with Costco. Just tell them your prescription and hopefully they have it in stock. If not, they will order them for you. Good luck!
Oh thanks!! I use disposable ones (30 days), so it sounds like it should be easy! We had a bad experience at Costco recently and had to boycott it (shame, bcause I love their pizza). So it sounds like Walmart might be the way to go! Charles - When I traveled more to the States, I would use 1 800 contacts. Great service and fast The problem is that they require a recent prescription :S
I'm not sure if you're getting themin the US or here, but I've had bad experiences everywhere but Costco here. Tehre is another disposable company Daysoft - they're in Ireland and have great prices but I'm not sure if you trust your post or not.
My experience with the Walmart optician was rotten, wouldn't go back. Will only go to Costco, they're the only ones who haven't screwed something up for my lenses.
Thanks elleboogs! Mi suegro has a card I could use, but he's currently boycotting Costco after this whole "you're trying to lie and steal to get an extra pizza" fiasco, so I might have to take you up on that haha. I'll let you know
