    How many of you have been reading the papers or watching the news about what is happening in cancun? The ferry explosions and the drastic rise in murders/deaths, some are locals but am alarming number are visitors on vacation. Am I the only one who has some concerns or an I just over analyzing things?

    The latest news report I read was mentioning that people are getting killed on the beach just outside the resorts. They say that locals are luring/pushing visitors out of the resorts then trying to rob them and eventually killing them.

    How much of this is happening close to TTR?

    Not concerned in the least bit. We were just there in December and felt completely safe the whole time. We didn't deal with any of the obviously shady "salesman" walking the beach nor wandering around outside the resort late at night. I'm sure it will be completely the same when we arrive in 2 weeks.

    Leaving on a cruise Saturday- port of calls in coszmel and playa - taking 2 25 year olds— we will use a bit of extra caution and will advise when we get back. Don’t think there will be a problem during daylight and not going clubing or far from the ports

    I don’t think luring will work at Temptation. Unless the bad guys are wearing thongs and are topless :)

    The latest article (NY Post) is based on a TV documentary that aired last November, and was mostly about Acapulco (but let's not let 2,000 km muddy the waters). Why was the article written yesterday if it were not to capitalise on the existing hysteria created by last weeks announcement from the US? Oh, Spring Break time - happens every year.

    You can also tell it's a rehash because they mention homicide figures for the first 6 months of 2017. Why not post the whole of 2017 stats since its is now March 2018? Because they just plucked bullet points out of a 4 month old TV programme and presented it as new information. Bad journalism.

    As for "luring visitors" I see no mention of that in the article nor the TV documentary. I cannot remember a single tourist ever being murdered in Cancun as long as I have lived here, and that's since 2004.

    I have family with kids in Playa del Carmen today. Walked fifth avenue. They didn’t seem to worried.
