We went for our first time to cancun and had a good time. Thought about trying out the other temp . Any feedback would be appreciated. I posted this once before but screwed up somehow lol
The other Temptations is now a desire . But, hearing occupancy is less then 50 % , that may be short lived.
fyi - average occupancy was also less than 50% when it was operating as a Temptation style resort ......
I went to Temptation Cabo in May of 2010. Although it was fun, it wasn't the same. Much smaller resort. 1 large pool and a small pool... Called it a giant hot tub with a swim up bar. The beach is insane with 10 foot high waves that hit the sand so hard it caused ripples across the main pool 100 yards away. Very unsafe swimming conditions. Located 30 miles north of the main part of Cabo. Resturants were good but there were only 2 on site that were open all the time and an Asian that was open 2wice a week.. Still a very nice resort all in all. Just wasn't the same...
I had heard that the Desire which had been TTR-Cabo wasn't doing so well, but running at 50%? Wow, that'll kill a business plan right quick. What's the problem with the resort, other than the locale's own problems? Too expensive for what you get? Too hard to get to?
We visited Cabos in April 2012 and we were told from the Entertainment staff that the resort was at 100% occupancy for a few days of our week - the entertainment staff live there and get bumped to another resort if its booked 100%. This was a few weeks before the May 1 Desire change-over. For anyone on the west coast of the US or Canada its super easy to get to. 3hr flight time for us with Alaska, United & Virgin offering direct flights everyday. To Cancun, only 1 direct flight per day on United and Virgin flies direct 2-days a week. 150 rooms, rooms are bigger and nicer - beautifully landscaped grounds. Staff are excellent. Food was very good. Because its in the desert and rarely rains - no hurricanes - almost everything is outdoor patio seating while dining. Lots of seating and beds surrounding the big pool with swim up bar. Beach with lots of seating/beds and views of the mountains are gorgeous. Mega (Wal-Mart like) store just 1.5 blocks away for all your shopping needs and airport to hotel was 20-minutes since you're in San Jose Del Cabo and Los Cabos is another 20-miles further down the peninsula. Then there is the giant hot tub on the 2nd floor overlooking the ocean with a swim up bar - easily fits 100+ people. There is also an indoor disco/night club area and a similar outdoor bar area like Paty'O's where the nightly activities usually go on. Smaller resort means staff was more personalized, never had to stand in line at 10am for dinner reservations, resort was more romantic/relaxed and upscale, bartenders were never rushed -happily made us order after order of rainbow shots, banana shots, flaming sambuca, la cucarahchas, and anything else we wanted using real shotglasses. Negatives: $40 cab ride to LosCabos & all the clubs Ocean surf is pretty brutal, rarely do people go in past there ankles unless you're an advanced swimmer & water is quite cool. no 3am burgers - instead we had pizzas & grilled sandwiches to order and no one stayed up/out partying at the resort past 2am. We have no idea why its not doing well - As Desire - its cheaper than the other Cancun area ones as well. Maybe its starting to catch on?
Yes Desire Los Cabos "had" low average occupancy over the winter months Dec>March but has picked up considerably since March as many trip reports have indicated. But just a thought for you all, at the Desire rate room prices, even operating at 50% over the winter months it is considerably more profitable than it was when operating at TTR rate room prices. btw - when as operating as a TTR property. the average occupancy was even lower during a similar time period and they even had to try to supplementing income by opening up the resort every Friday night to anyone that had $$ by running the 360 lounge club ........
