Our Cancun move is getting closer and closer and of course we are now looking at schools for our 6 year old daughter. Colegio Alexandre is one of the schools on the top of the list and we just had some questions if any of you could help. What papers from your childrens schools did you need? Was it or is it hard to get accepted into this school? Is it as good as it looks? If there are any other comments or things I should know I´d really appreciate it. Thanks!
My daughter had an interview at Colegio Alexandre when we were looking for a school for her to attend. During the interview it was repeatedly emphasized to us how hard it would be to kidnap a kid from there. But not much was said about academics, even though that was our fundamental concern. The campus was nicely appointed. But for us the place felt way too snooty. I'm a huge education snob, and I don't mind snooty people who are actually well-educated. But our impression of this school was that the snootiness stemmed from the fact that the school was full of rich kids, not from academic elitism. This was 4 years ago...so don't take my word for it. Go and see for yourself. I may have mis-read that place. And it may have changed. I have a friend who is teaching there now, so clearly the place isn't all bad. We decided to send our daughter to IAS/CES because there seemed to be much more emphasis on education and there was very little pretense about the place. IAS/CES isn't perfect either and my daughter stayed only 2 years but when she left she was way ahead of her US counterparts in science and math, and she was fully up-to-grade-level in other subjects.
Have to agree on the snooty /snobby issue, we were checking out schools for our daughter a few months back and decided against Alexandre because of this. The facilities do look very good though (for Cancun). I dont think it's particularly 'hard' to get into, there will be an entrance exam although I'd wager it is not any more tough than the entrance exam at any other private school. If you havent seen it already you may find the following link useful: Cancun Primary School Rankings
Thanks for your quick responses. Are there any other schools you guys would recommend? or what schools do your children attend?
I have a soon to be 12 year old in 6th grade that has attended Colegio Monteverde for the last 7 years. I have no complaints The school is bilingual but is not as big as the Alexandre and its location is very convenient. you can check it out online at www.mimonteverde.com My Daughter loves the school and also does very well so that maybe makes my opinion a bit biased
Thanks cunspin... Monteverde is also a possibility that we were looking at so I´m glad to hear a good review about them.
Our almost 5 yr old is at Britanico. We waivered a few months ago and looked round a few other schools for this coming school year, since the facilities I dont think are that great at Britanico for the 5-11 yr olds - although her education so far has been nothing short of excellent imho. St Johns and Da Vinci made the shortlist. We had a good look round both and chatted with the staff in some depth, however, we decided to stick with Britanico.
Thanks Steve for the input, I will definitely be looking at Britanico also. Do they have a website so I can take a look at the school?
Hard? I ,do know it does depend on availability they have a limited class size and erolled students do get preference but if there is a spot available I don't think it is hard.
