Don't take it too seriously. For Colbert to "really" run, he would have to drop his TV show. There are strict rules on campaign finance and he would violate a whole bunch of them if he had a TV show and ran for President. Marsh
Colbert won't be on the ballot unless he goes out and gets 10,000 signatures to run as an independent in South Carolina. The Democratic Party of the state today rejected his application and he decided not to file as a Republican because they have some kind of crazy application fee in the range of $35,000 to be on their ballot.

From what I heard they deny his request as a democratic candidate because they could not take him serious. They thought he use his campaign as punch line at the Democratic party, TV Ratings.
