Hi all, Does anyone have any idea as to how much Club Casablanca costs a month, for a couple or single? And, do you know if you can just pay for a gym membership? I thought now might be a good time to try and bargain my way in there. Thanks in advance Mat
Mat our family membership(up to 5 people) costs 4035 pesos a month. You cannot just buy the "Gym" membership- its all or nothing. I know memberships were being offered to expats who could prove they work in tourism at a reduced rate and for only 3 years instead of the 30 year membership we had to buy when it first opened. If you do not want to buy a membership you can rent one. Go in and see the sales team, be hard and bargain like mad.! Tracey
Thanks Tracey, Yep bargaing hard seems to be they way forward with these club memberships! Renting one could be a good idea. It looks like a lovely place. I take it you enjoy going? The tennis courts look fantastic. (great report about Chiapas by the way!)
Mat its my 2nd home- I play tennis there every day.Group classes are included in membership price as are swimming lessons, various fitness classes, tae kwondo, etc etc......................... If they ask you who recommended you please say me as I think its gets us a 50% discount on one months membership. Tracey
Looks like we better head down there then mate and get a good deal, although i'm thinking 4000 pesos a month, might be a little out my price range and probably cheaper at Sport City? My experience of this country is that nowhere likes to bargain, it seems they would rather lose the customer than offer you a cent off the price, in England or the US that would never happen, they chase you out the door and even when you think they're at rock bottom, they can offer you more stuff, here you go to buy a car, they don't chuck in freebies, they charge you crazy prices for extras, like floor mats!
Sam I know they are open to bargaining at Casablanca- as it makes me slightly mad when I hear how much less people are paying than me. They cannot reduce the monthly rate - only the joining fee. Tracey
My question is, what is the cheapest gym you can go to in Cancun, where you don't have to pay a stupid membership fee (i already burnt 11,000 pesos upfront at Albatross two years ago and it's too far to attend so to stop paying 1350 pesos a month i had to put my membership on hold) and that gym actually has decent facilities, i'm talking some or all of the following... REQUIRED Free Weights Steam Room Showers Clean Floors and Machines No time restrictions on when you can go or how long Lockers, not holes in the wall with no doors No lurky-lurkerson instructors* Permission to 'clang' the odd weight without fear of lurker attack* WOULD BE A BONUS Tennis Sauna Jacuzzi Swimming Pool I know we've probably had this discussion three or four times already but maybe some special offers have popped up or new gyms? Does anyone have any information on the gym in Plaza Hollywood or the new one in Malecon Las Americas (not sure if open yet?) * For anyone unsure what a lurky lurkerson is, it's an English term, meaning strange gym instructor that follows you around the gym, watching what you are doing and breathing heavily, whilst complaining about your form, the weight, your routine and the way you touch the machines. NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH PURPLE AKI (look him up on Wikipedia, well actually don't!)
So does your 4000 pesos a month include the joining fee or is it on top of one? If so do you mind me asking how much the 30 year was up front? I know how you feel, after i joined Albatross and we bargained and bargained and threatened to walk away, we got it down to 1350 a month for 6 people on top of 11,000 membership fee, we then saw them in Paseo Cancun, offering memberships for next to nothing and they said there was nothing we could do about it, F@!"kers!
Super Fitness Damas in Plaza Hollywood is somewhat limited in what it provides. It's got good classes. And there are decent weight machines, free weights and fitness machines. But there's not much else. And it's for women only. I signed up for a two year membership there and it was around $400 MXP a month for a 2 year contract. But after 6 months I was so bloody sick of the rotten music they play there (and so loudly that I couldn't hear my own MP3 player) that I wanted out. It was a royal pita to get out of that contract. I had to prove that I was either too sickly to work out or that I was moving away. So, as far as Super Fitness Damas is concerned I no longer live here. They don't seem to have noticed that I am still a regular at the Starbucks downstairs from them. HAHA! I've said it before...but my gym back in the US charged $60 USD a month for a huge club with both an indoor and outdoor pool, 5 squash courts, 3 tennis courts, indoor track, great machines, basketball court, yoga, spinning, a whole huge room of free weights, sauna, jacuzzi, daycare, a snack bar and a bar that served microbrews. And that gym was co-ed, so I could always go make out with my husband between weight sets. All around a much better gym experience than anything I've seen here.
