I was thinking of some of the things that I can not get here and I alreay have a list for friends and family to bring, but then I started to think of all of the things that they do have here that I can not get in the States (or at least it is not readily available).
:Agua de Tamarindo. (This is a new favorite of mine. If you haven't tasted it, you should try. It took me a while to even try it, but once I did, I was hooked).
:Chicharones (Fried pork skin). Not too good for the cholesterol levels, by delicious anyway. What an invention...pork skin, fried in pork fat)
:Apple flavored soda. I don't usually drink soda, but this flavor is great (I prefer Manzana Lift. What ever happened to Sidral Mundet).
:Fresh Tortillas. Corn or Flour. We have to buy 2 packages. One to eat in the car, the other for the house.
:Choco Roles pineapple flavored). For the kids, but I sneak one now and then.

I have to add my favourites to the list of things they can't get up north. Skwinkles (my serious addiction), salsa verde chips, Oaxaca cheese, Tajin on my popcorn, chayote, epazote, and kibis to name a few. :)

Actually some of the things you mention are available in the States in Hispanic markets.

I know for example that in my local fruit market which is also Hispanic based Aqua De Tamarindo, Chicharones are every day staples. Chicharones is also available in some Chinese Markets as well. Fresh Tortillas are also available in some places but more mom and pop hispanic markets then larges ones.

HI everyone I just stumbled across this page:) I live in Toronto, hubby is originally from Mexico D.F! I am happy to let you all know that in toronto we now can get anything Mexican wohooo! Kensington Market ( a lttile area in toronto) has pretty much turned into a little mexico, compete with tortillerias, tacos shops mmm and mexican supermarkets. We go on Saturdays and buy fresh chorizo and oxaca cheese and all the chicharron you can imigine complete with valentina sauce, you can buy sangria, jarritos, any spices even nopales.. Plus Micheladas are sold here now too in some of the bars!! Tajin is sold everywhere now and the prices are good too! Bought a bottle of tajin in cancun last year i think for 7 pesos? We buy it here in toronto for $1. I thought I would share that :) bimbo opened up in Montreal as well as Herdz so we get all the Bimbo products too:) So up north here in Toronto we are not missing a thing ;) Hubby got scared 5 years ago when he first moved to Toronto that he would not be able to find anything of his, but was realy surprised that toronto Canada now has a huge Mexican community lol. Take care everyone !

Hi kloco, welcome! I left Toronto seven years ago (seven years ago today as a matter of fact). Kensington is one of the places I miss most of all, happy to hear they've got some Mexican flavour! There used to be a taco place on Bloor at Clinton that was authentic, are they still around? (Can't remember the name, sorry!). Glad to hear your hubby is able to have a taste of home. :)

I forgot to add my favorite thing: Grilled Chicken from a roadside "Stand." Can't beat it for $60 pesos.
Also, Bohemia Beer and Noche Buena Beer.
And..Chipotle flavored Mayo and Lime flavored Mayo.

I know that a lot of these items are in the US and Canada, but for some reason, it tastes better here (in Mexico (in my opinion)).

HI my fellow torontonian (cancuncanuck) yes that place is still around 'tacos el asador! wow 7 years in cancun , congrats I bet you miss Toronto. If you havent been back you would be shocked. Kensignton has really changed its crazy what you can get, walking through there shopping and everyone speaking spanish, it almost feels like you escaped to Mexico for the day, complete with real tacos al pastor and suadero cooking It has just recently started changing to 'mini mexico' in the last 4.5 years , we were screaming like we won the lottery when 'la tortilleria' opened, but of course once you hit spadina your in china town again lol! I envy you living in cancun, we visit twice a year as my sis inlaw lives there. Hubby was born in d.f but relocated to Cancun @ 19yrs old for work with his sister and it is a whole lot safer than d.f , and than yrs later I met him there, stole him and made him move to T.O( promising him its not that cold hahahaha)Maybe oneday i will make the move as he is begging during winter and -25'c to go back to cancun ;)
yes i agree pocodinero , some things just taste better in mexico like Noche buena beer and even dos equis , they are brewed here but I can't seem to drink them. The falovour is so different . In mexico on the other hand my dos equis taste great and normal once again and I can drink it like a true canadian ( like a sailor)lol!!
