I would be interested to learn how the Southern Yucatan faired the strong punch of Dean. Given the level of communications in this area, there are not many reports coming from the major news outlets. Once it was determined that Cancun would not be affected, it seemed like the media turned their attention to flooding in Oklahoma which was more "newsworthy". I found it interesting that some of the locals in the Chetumal area fended off soldiers with machetes when told to evacuate (see weather.com).
