Hello, Will be there is Aug for our firts time. I wanted o check and see if anyone could provide info on cell phones while there? Last year we went to Grand Cayman and we were able to rent a cell phone there fro about $75 that included free calls. Does anyone know if anyone offers this for Cancun? Thanks! :headbanger:

I just used my own phone the last 2 years. I just added an Intrnational package add on for $30.00. Made a few calls home to Canada, and about a dozen text messages and incurred no extra costs. My wife used hers once to call home while there and it only cost a $1.25 a min. and that was it. I must note I use Rogers Wireless in Canada and they do have agreements in place with the US and Mexico for no cost for roaming.
Yeah i believe verizon is like the same 1.00 to 1.25 per min. i skype from the lobby if i need to as well
We have USCellular, for the last few years we could never get a straight answer. This year we did, they have a per day fee, per minute, per minute tower fee but no txt or data. Not too bad but we will just use a phone card at the convience store next door if we need to call home.
depends on country...incoming or outgoing...phone cards are decent, but most phone companies have something for $20 to $50....
only suggestion with phone cards, don't buy them in the states. We made the mistake of buying one at Wal-mart before we left for cancun. 1st use used about 28 minutes off a 60 minute card. We have always since bought a card at the store I think its 30 minutes for $15 US.
I've been using my own cell phone in Cancun for years with no problems. I have AT & T here in the States. International roaming rates are 89 cents a minute and text messages are 50 cents each. Ironically I get a much better reception in Cancun (always 5 bars) than here at home.
Rogers Canada charges $3@ minute if you have no plan If you have an unlocked phone you can go online and purchase a I month Mexican Sim card for 15 to 30 $ giving you unlimited local calling and texting and .35 to .50 per minute international.
Cancunvalet is great for renting cell phones. They will deliver it to the resort or if you also need airport transportation they will give it to you when they pick you up at the airport. I rented a phone from them probably 15 times and never had a problem and it is very reasonable.
