So with my new job, for the next few weeks I will be getting a check with an account at Banorte. Can someone tell me what I need to do with this to get the cash? I am sure its not like endorsing the back and walking in and presenting them with an ID and bam I am done. Kind of alone on this one and I need the $ asap....preferably today. And what time are the banks open until?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!!

I don't know if your employer would do it, but a nomina account is the way to go. Once the account had been set up, with your ATM card you'd never have to set foot in a bank, or deal with cashing checks, again, because your pay would be automatically deposited and taxes withheld at the source. Unless you made over 400,000 pesos a year, you'd never have to worry with filing a tax return, either! This is the way to go, if possible.

As for cashing a check, go to the bank which issued it, and present it along with your passport and FM3 showing that you have permission to work and it should be no problem to cash. (My opinion, but partially based on experience with it.)

Can't present either one of those as the Hotels Lawyers have it to change the job with Immigration. Could be a week or two. I hope the companies ID would work the same. It has my name and photo and lists the same Company name on both.
    Any idea on bank hours???

Because for the first three months I am on a month to month contract (as a new employee), they only issue checks every 15 days. After that I can have the funds deposited into my account...that I have yet to set up.

Try it, but what I mentioned was what the bank required when I tried to do this.
You're so funny, Tori! Give us the name of the bank and somebody out there will know it.

In general, banks here seem to be open M-F 9-5; some are open 9-1 on Sat; depends on the bank.

I used to have one company pay me like that, and it was as simple as walking into the bank that issued the cheque, signing the back and having some id to receive cash on the spot.

This was about 5 yrs ago, things change sometimes.

ok..maybe next day off. Don't have the time to get out before 5. It's Banorte...I checked, it's in the first post.

Yes, HR has to send it out to the Lawyers and then at their convince, go to INM. So a week or two sounds about right.

    Thanks for the answers

Sorry we can't be more specific and concrete in speaking about your case: all we have to go on is our experiences, and impressions.

The way for you to know for sure, how it will go, is to try it. Nothing to lose, right?

I remember how angry I was when a bank refused to cash a check for me: I stormed out in a display of pique. Then, I got to thinking, there was no reason for me act snotty with the cashier, she was just doing as she was told. It was up to me to find a way around the problem. (It's been so long now that I don't remember exactly what I ended up doing.)

Banks can be tricky to deal with. When we bought our condo the seller rushed to the bank to cash the check, immediately after the closing, only to be told the bank would not honor the check they themselves had issued!

It got sorted out, but there was little point to arguing the illogic of what they did and said....
