My uncle is letting me use his time share to go on spring break and my friends and I are staying at the Hotel Casa Maya. How far is the hotel from the hotel zone? Is this a pretty decent place to stay? Do any spring breakers stay at this resort?
Casa Maya is in the Hotel Zone....just on the Northern side. I was just there the other night for Dinner, my friends parents were staying there. It's nice. Nothing over the top. Can't speak about SB, but as long as they don't mention that they don't take SBers, I am sure there will be some there. Just don't expect a raging party.
We have been going to the Casa Maya in March for the last 9 years. It is a quick bus ride to the corner of the Hotel zone (5-10 Minutes). It is not a five star resort, but it has everything you would need, it is clean, the rooms are very nice, and the staff is wonderful. The beach is excellent! There are some spring breakers but nothing wild more of a relaxed atmosphere. Casa Maya in 41 days
Casa Maya is pretty much near the big giant Mexican Flag. I was checking out the beach next door at Playa Tortugas the other day and it is pretty much the way it always has been. Adequate is the best way to describe it. As my buddy Tori B says, "Casa Maya is in the Hotel Zone". To get to what we call Party Center, you would cross the street, catch ANY public bus for $7.5 pesos, about $.55 US per person and get off just after the convention center. As you are approaching this area there is a huge hotel, the Riu Palace, appearing dead ahead. The road curves to the right and this is where you will get off the bus. You will pass a big yellow gift shop called Plaza Fiesta and the bus stops just after it. From the bus stop, cross the street and walk through one of the walkways to where the street is going the other direction. This is where the action is. Going back to the hotel, hop on any public bus going the opposite way of the first one. There are bus stops everywhere and the public buses are marked with the route numbers, like R-1, R-2, etc. The bus drivers have been known to short change you if they think you can get away with it so it is always better to keep a handful of coins for bus fare. If you care, you can go the other way from a bus in front of your hotel and get downtown. Walmart and Market 28 are the R-2 or R-15 buses and you can also get to Avenida Yaxchilan where there are many smaller clubs, some with live music, and a great sports bar called La Taberna. Enjoy.
