Has anyone used this company. They have hotel pick up service and full insurance is included in the rates. (Although it still works out to about $40.00 per day) thanks
I have used them before with no problems at all. Some advice...... -Get price and reservation confirmation via email. Print that out and take it with you. -Check the car before you take it off their lot. Check for license plates, spare tire (and if it's full or flat), and any existing damage to the vehicle. Make sure that all of that is written on the contract before you sign it and drive off. -Watch out for speed bumps (topes). -Make sure that you know the basics of what the road signs say in Spanish.
Jason, Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I didn't get it until we got back but we had a great trip. I will share my car rental experience with Caribbean - America Car rental. They are the same company and go by several other names. They all have an office downtown and at the Grand Caribe Real next to the Royal. We reserved an Automatic Car that included full insurance and zero deductible. The rate was $44.00 per day. They were to pick us up at 6pm at our hotel. They emailed us a confirmation and even left us a voicemail that they would pick us up a 6pm. On the day of pick up, we had the hotel call them and let them know we were ready at 5pm if they wanted to come buy early. At that time, they told the hotel they were looking for a car. We waited in the lobby, they never came by. The next day we went to the Grand Caribe Real to their office. The guy said our reservation was for the day before but they didn't have a car. They had the same car but in Manual that morning but we had to pay an extra $31.00 for insurance. Considering that we wanted to go to Chichen Itza that morning and then had reservations in Riveria Maya that night we had no choice. It is very much a case of bait and switch. Although the car was fine and the staff surprising nice, management must instruct them to play games with the reservation. That is the first we experience something like that in Mexico. This is the response I got when I emailed them about being overcharged. Thank you for your e mail. America Car Rental is a corporation with seven affilliate agencies, Caribbean Rent a Car being one of them. They are similar but differ a little in vehicles, policies, rates and coverages. On your reservation through Caribbean Rent a Car, CUN 8317, booked at 8:39 pm, on 11 June, a Consierge from your hotel, contacted Caribbean Rent a Car by phone, around 3:35 pm, Sunday, 5 July, on your behalf, to ask we pick you up earlier, . He was informed at that time, to convey to you ,that no vehicles were available due to many last minute unexpected extensions and some vehicles that were returned with damages that merited being sent for repairs and therefore you would not be picked up.
