Hi! I'm thinking of taking the boys to a cenote to swim and snorkle. I'm looking for one that is not too cavey as it would make me closterphobic (I can't spell).

Car Wash Cenote seems like a good choice as it seems pretty open and fairly close...

Anyone been there? Is it a good choice? Are there better choices? My boys are 9, 9 and 8 and very active, terrific swimmers (swim team) but Mom (me) is not nearly as athletic and would like to be able to get out once I'm in it!

Car wash is pretty far, down past Tulum near Coba. Closer cenotes that I enjoy with my son are Cenote Azul and Cenote Cristallino, both south of Playa del Carmen but not as far south as Akumal.

Cristallino would be my first choice, it's an open cenote that has a semi-enclosed cave plus a cliff for jumping. Great fun and cheap too, pretty sure it's still 100 pesos or less to get in.

I've got some photos of both of them here
