Has anyone rented a car while visiting the resort? If so,
What are the pros and cons?
What is the cost per day?
How far is the resort from the airport?
How far is Walmart from the resort?
    If Walmart is close,
Is it better to buy toiletries from Walmart and save room in your bags for more shoes LOL?
What are fun things to do in Cancun (zipline, cave tubing ect.)?
What are things to avoid while in Cancun?
What is the weather like mid November there?
What is the cell service like there?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to prepare ourselves.

Hi you two. Look forward to seeing you both there.

I can't help with the question on rental cars, but perhaps someone else knows. Otherwise a google search should turn something up. Given how inexpensive the public transit is (even taxis) I'm not sure I'd want to be driving around on streets (and with laws) that I'm unfamiliar with. Just our thoughts.

For the weather, check out the main Cancuncare.com site. Specifically here:

    Cancun Weather

There is lots of info on Steve's main site...including all kinds of tourist tips that will probably answer most of your questions. You can also book tours right through this site which helps Steve keep the site going.

See if that helps and I'm sure others will chime in as well. If you still have any questions we're happy to help if we can!

Walmart is about 10 minutes away by bus. The bus will pick you up in front of the resort and drop you off very close to Walmart. It cost $1 US each way and runs frequently. The resort will give you the bus number that you want. I think it's an $8 cab ride. I would say if you are concerned about overweight baggage, buying toiletries down there is a smart move. The Walmart also sell some better quality liquor and wine than the resort offers to their standard guest.

I opted for just the text plan on my phone and that worked awesome for me - inexpensive and efficient.

    Hope that helps

I would *not* rent a car in Cancun. I did it my first trip down there and it is pretty crazy trying to drive somewhere on your own... I know I don't read Spanish quickly, so it is hard to decipher where you are going. MUCH easier to be driven around. I recommend USA Transfers to pick you up from the airport, drop you off & they can even swing by Wal-Mart for you on your way to the resort.

PLUS, why waste the money on a car? Once you get to Temptation, you will *not* want to leave for anything!! :) I am one of those touristy-type-gotta-see-this-gotta-do-that, and the morning we left TTR via taxi and got to downtown Cancun, the first thing on my mind was getting back to the resort ASAP.

We have AT&T cell service. It worked great - crystal clear reception.

we have been to Cancun 8 times and after our first trip would never take the chance on renting a car when public transit is so cheap and easy to use. $1each way. Cabs are more expensive of course and the price should be determined with the driver before getting in the car. The first time we were in Cancun, a couple at the resort we were staying at rented a car. Ended up getting pulled over by the POLICIA for no reason and were told to give them all their money and valuables or they would take them to jail. the girl came running into the resort crying her eyes out! Not worth the risk for us! you can take the bus to the Walmart is not far at all. there are basically two streets in cancun North and south. Very easy to get around. there are lots of great eco adventures however not very close to Cancun. Xcaret, Xelha, Xplor are very popular and all have their own websites. Google them to see what they all offer! also you can read actual reviews on Tripadvisor.com from people that have been there. all are available for purchase from your rep at the resort. They aren't cheap although worth every penny! Not sure what I would say to avoid, we love it! Cell service? Don't know, always leave it off cause am terrified about the roaming and other charges! We went once in November a few years back and it was cooler. I hope and think this was an isolated incident ;)

Oh yes, the resort is about 20-25 minutes from the airport if traffic is flowing well. If you do not have your transfer lined up, I would read the information that Steve has put together about private and shared tranfers and book one using the link that Steve has placed here. Using the link will not set you up with the company that Steve recommends but it will also provides him with a referral fee (at no additional cost to you). Most people book USA Transfer and say very good about them. They will provide you with private transportation for $55 return (so based on two people travelling together, that works out to about $13.75 per person each way). Private transportaion means that as soon as your ready to go - you go, with no stops along the way to drop off other guest.
