We just got back from Cancun. This time around we actually left the hotel zone and went outside to eat. We were in search for authentic Indian cuisine and we found a locally owned restaurant called Elephant. It is close to the mall area by the ocean view. I would recommend for everyone to try this restaurant. Yes, it is bit expensive but worth it. They provide 5 star service with 5 start food quality. Also you can have dinner overlooking the water. What's not to like!! I enjoyed it the best, I thought I share with you guys. About hotel experience, we stayed at Grand Oasis. This is our 3rd time there. But 3rd wasn't the charm, ha! So this is what happened. We checked in at the front lobby around 2:45. They said they were full and crowded. It took them about 1 hour to get our room ready. We grabbed the key and went to the room. Soon, we found out that room was way far down the hotel towards the end zone. We literally walked like half mile to get to the room. The minute we walked into the room, we walked into flooded floors. There was literally 1 to 2 inch of water coming out of bathroom. So, around 4 pm we rushed back to the front counter (walked back another half mile). At front counter, first that guy told us that when it rains so hard it is common problem in all rooms of GrandOasis. Then he gave us two options: 1) They will have maid clean the room. But after cleaning if it rains again, there will be water leak again 2) They will transfer us to their sister hotel. When we asked what's wrong with giving us the new room? They said, they can't because hotel is full. That's when one of my friend lost temper and yelled at the front counter guy in front of other guests. That guy finally reached out to his manager and came back after 15 minutes. Well well well, this time he gave us another ocean front view which had no water problem. I guess hotel wasn't full afterall Just keep in mind guys if Grand Oasis is running busier than normal then they will try to swing you to another sister hotel or they will hesitate to change the rooms. But stick to what's right and hopefully they'll switch you to better room. Other than that, it was a fun trip. Hotel food and bar service was exceptional. Bartenders were friendly and they do remember you if you tip them. Even if you don't tip, you will be served well. Yea, do check out those local restaurants by mall area and the downtown area. They're fun and delicious. Night clubs were fun too but just too crowded and ratio of guys to girls was like too high. But, that's something we can't control. Overall another fun trip in Cancun goes down in the book
Nice report. Glad the room deal had a happy ending. Elephant is nice but many of us in town like The Taste of India. Great food, no lagoon view, but if you walk outside you can see the bus station. BUT ABOUT HALF THE PRICE OF ELEPHANT. We have many good restaurants downtown where you don't have to pay tourist prices. I had a shrimp "dinner" for lunch today, that I could not finish, a one liter Michelada and it was $125 plus tip. Under $10 US plus the tip. Owner stopped by to check on us. Marimba music. Incredible shrimp. If anyone wants to go there sometime you can buy me lunch and I will drive, once you get to downtown. LOL
And Trina knows exactly where I went since we have been there many times. She may even be jealous that she did not get to go today.
TJ - I think I was with you once at the shrimp restaurant. Am I correct? Can't wait to get back and go with my wife.
I think I am jelous if it's where I think it is you went. Can we go when I get back in 2 weeks? PLEASE PLEASE!!!!! I will pay, for the airport favor.
