We were in Cancun last year and Cozumel the year before. We never felt threatened during either trips. BUT, I still hear a lot of people at home who are not comfortable traveling to Mexico (tourist areas, not talking TJ) due to cartel violence.

So, I am curious of others people's experience. Have you felt unsafe at any point in the past while you're away from TTR or en route to/from the airport? Do you take extra precautions?

Wanting to try and give our families a little reassurance :)

Outside of Acapulco a couple years back I have not heard of any violence against tourists and we have never ever felt the slightest bit threatened during any of our trips to Cancun.

we felt very safe in the hotel zone in Cancun we walked from TTR to Americas Mall quite a hike I may add, we went on the ferry to the Island and rented golf carts toured the Island without any issues. We even walked around the area where Coco Bongos is and it was all fine as well.

Cancun is no different than any other tourist destination. Use common sense as you would in any city and you will have a great time.

It is safe, as long as you are around people. Use common sense and you will be fine. I found bus is safer than taxi. Just be careful from picpocketers, and remember if anything sounds too good to be true then be cautious.

we go to Vegas every year and there's always at least two murders while we are there. It's just like everything else, just be smart.
we have never felt it was in Mexico.

Never felt threatened at all. Use the same common sense that you would use in Dallas. If you have any concerns, just stay at the resort or go on group events ie: Boobs Cruise.
