Alright im interested in going to cancun this spring break with me and my friends. Were leaving from the NYC area and i was pricing some trips and studentcity is gonna be around 1300 for 5 days but i went on expedia and i could get the same trip(with 2 rooms with 2 people in each rather than 4 in 1 room with studentcity) for 840 with shuttle service from the airport. Is my best bet going with the expedia trip and saving close to 500 bucks and using that money to hit up the clubs or should i take the safer bet with studentcity. this is our first time going to cancun but im pretty sure with the information on this board i could make my way around just fine. any pros or cons of booking the trip via expedia rather than studentcity? Is 5 days enough or should we do 7 if its possible with everyones schedule? also anyone else leaving from the nyc area during that week? also is phase 1 the lagoon view? also how much spending money additionally to the all inclusive should we bring on average?
I live in CT, will likely fly out of Htfd. I've done it through NY before though. Here is my advice: Do NOT pay studentcity price. You have a couple options. 1. Try to get studentcity to price match. I have done this before usually with some success. 2. Book with expedia. 3. Book flight and hotel separately. Personally, I think choice 3 usually works out to be the cheapest. Last year I got my flight directly through Continental, and I got my hotel through a UK travel site, alpharooms.com, which had the cheapest price for Oasis. Sometimes you can have issues with getting bumped from the hotel, but not usually a problem. Here is the other downside of studentcity. They often will assign what day/time you fly. So if you are deadset on going Fr-Fr or Sat-Sat, etc...you are probably better off booking on your own. They take your preference, but do not always accomodate. I had this problem once, I did not want to fly sun-sun and got stuck with it. I don't use studentcity anymore just because it's cheaper to book it on my own. They are a good company and do a good job down there, you just end up paying a premium. As for the number of days, I can tell you that you are going to want to stay for longer once you get down there. I would book for 7 days. I started out going 7, and now I go for 9-10 days.
ill look into booking it separately i see the price on the continental site is slightly lower than on expedia but the hotel elsewhere would be a bit more expensive. i wanna book as soon as possible but how big are the price fluctuations?
Could be a lot. last year I booked in early january, 400 for flight, it dropped to like 340 in early Feb. That's the one benefit of using orbitz, they will guarantee you the price difference.
Airfare can fluctuate up and down depending on release of new low fare and availbility. Hotel too can fluctuate depending on the sales they give out randomly. I almost booked a air+9 nights at Gran Melia a couple months ago for $1100-$200(orbitz coupon). Now the same package is $1500-$200. Bottom line, you can't really predict the travel price trend because there isn't one (except that airfare usually goes up at 21 day mark, 14 day mark, and 7 day mark). Best way to do it is to start watching early and be ready to pull the trigger when you see a good deal.
Plus two, if you're rooming with someone, that same deal for flight and hotel at Gran Melia for two doubles was $650 a person, I'm still kicking myself over it.
I've used Expedia before. I really liked them.. Booked through them when I went to Las Vegas in 2007. If Expedia is that much cheaper, that is when I personally would choose.. You can always book the party packages through S.City anyway, once you get to Cancun... Well, i'm pretty sure you can.. Can anyone confirm this?
whats the average money people should bring additionally living decently out there for 5 days. going out to a different club every night and booze cruise and etc
